“Authenticity and Sincerity”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

Asheville's primary attractions, such as the Biltmore Estate and the Grove Park Inn, draw huge crowds due to their grandeur, their rich history, and their hospitality. Billy and Michael have achieved similar results (albeit on a smaller scale) with the Reynolds Mansion. They have put this house back in the form it was in its heyday, and have not only respected its history, but made it accessible to any visitor. Their commitment to getting it right (which included such things as having an artist spend four weeks laying on his side on a scaffold to duplicate a faux wood finish below the dining room crown molding) is incredible to experience.

There are B&B's whose structures are more exotic, whose rooms are bigger, and whose furnishings are more expensive. But I haven't stayed in one whose owners and staff were as genuine and accommodating, and their breakfasts were as good as I've had on any of the four continents I've visited.

If you go to Asheville and you really want to get a feel of life back in the day, stay at the Reynolds Mansion. And be sure to have Billy tell you some of its history over breakfast, and have him show you the pictures of what the house was like prior to its restoration. Then, you will really know what it's like to have a big dream, and what it takes to realize it. You will leave not only refreshed from your stay, but inspired.

I realize this sort of praise sounds overheated. But, I was in the military for 23 years, and I've been to lots of places, ranging from grandiose to miserable and dangerous. The Reynolds Mansion, in my book, is the real thing - an indisputably good place.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Linda room, very Victorian, fabulous bed and furnishings ...

To say I was impressed with both the wonderful hospitality and beautiful home would be an understatement! Reynolds Mansion is amazing! Asheville is one of my favorite places, and now I have a home away from home. Billy and Mike are so welcoming, and the entire house is so inviting. I was visiting with a friend, so we enjoyed having a room with 2 beds. I have stayed several places in Asheville, but this is the place to which I will always return. Several other guests were there for the first time, also, and they said the same thing! We enjoyed learning about the history of the house, too! Billy had great recommendations for things to do and restaurants in the area. The only complaint we had was that we couldn't stay longer! You will love your visit!

Room Tip: We took a tour and saw all the rooms. They were all beautiful! Any room would be a great choice!

These innkeepers are superb - they are hospitable, interesting, generous, attentive, helpful, and genuinely friendly. The house is authentically furnished and background music of the 1930's adds to the atmosphere. No detail is ignored in the accommodations and the bed met the Goldilocks standard. The breakfasts are truly unique and memorable - such as roasted vegetable crepe or apple stuffed French bread that was wonderful! We agree with all the rave reviews of this lovely Inn and its charming innkeepers.

Room Tip: We liked our room on the 1st floor with easy access to the pantry and the porch, but we didn't h...

The Reynolds Mansion is truly the gold standard of bed and breakfasts. My husband and I enjoyed every aspect of our stay. The decor is beautiful, authentic and fascinating. Our room was luxurious and comfortable. If you are interested (and we were) there is a tremendous amount of unique information about the history of the Mansion. The grounds are lovely, the food is amazing, but above all, the hospitality is unmatched. Billy, the proprietor, epitomizes southern hospitality, and will happily suggest a myriad of activities available in the area. We are anxious to return.

We really were lucky to spend two nights at this fabulous B & B. It was like going back in time to the luxury of years past. Billy was an excellent host and could provide information about everything happening in Asheville. The information he shared about the history of the house, the people and the wonderful items in the house was what made our stay a really enjoyable experience. There were so many wonderful surprises! We enjoyed complementary wine on the balcony overlooking the distant mountains, fantastic cookies and wonderful delicious breaksfasts. Breakfast at the banquet table, elegantly set, with the other guests was delightful. We certainly hope to return to see Billy and this unique home again.

The Reynolds Mansion is an absolute delight; we stayed in the Carriage House, which featured perhaps the most comfortable bed on the planet as well as an enourmous jacuzzi tub. The room was impeccably clean, quiet, and very private; the morning view from the french doors featured Asheville and the surrounding mountains, which are especially beautiful during Fall. Breakfast was quite a delicious and fun experience (my traveling companion remarked that it reminded her of Downton Abbey and Biltmore as we were waited by numerous extremely courteous staff). If I return to Ashevlle I will only stay here; easily worth every penny and then some.

After researching and reading several reviews on Trip Advisor, we chose the Reynolds Mansion to end our stay in Asheville, which began with three nights of camping in the Pisgah National Forest. Of course, just about anything would have been an improvement from camping in sub-40 degree temperatures, but we were pleasantly and unmistakably impressed with this property and its staff.

Even though we arrived a couple of hours prior to our check-in time, we were graciously ushered into the house by one of its proprietors, Billy, who is one of the more charming and engaging personalities I have met lately. He has such a vibrant and welcoming energy about him that talking to him really lifts your spirits -- even though they were already high.

The rooms are elegantly appointed and charming, and are apparently named after family members of the proprietors, Billy and Mike, with warming touches like photographs and portraits scattered all around. Many B&Bs have that strangely awkward feeling when you first check in – like you are invading someone’s home -- but the Reynolds Mansion made us immediately comfortable. It was as though we were staying in the home of a close family member, which is a difficult feeling to put into words, but the house, the mountains in the background, and sheer feeling you get when you enter the home are utterly calming.

Billy offers advice as to what restaurants and attractions to visit while staying there, and he was certainly dead-on with each of his suggestions. He regaled us with engaging tales of the house’s storied past, its past owners, and the mysteries and intrigue surrounding all of them. By the end of our stay, it was readily apparent how much Billy and Mike love and respect this historic property and its colorful past. In my mind a good B&B (or hotel) is not made only with the decoration and accommodation. It’s the entire package. We are so glad we had the opportunity to visit such a lovely place, and, should we ever return to Asheville, the Reynolds Mansion will be the first choice on our list of places to stay. Plus, the breakfasts are the best B&B breakfasts I have ever experienced!
