“New Year's Eve Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014

My husband & I & two of our friends spent New Year' Eve @ the Lion & the Rose. The location of the inn is just a short drive from downtown Asheville and the Biltmore. We were warmly greeted by Kelly & given a tour, including the pantry which was well stocked with snacks, home made cookies, bottled water, soft drinks, tea & coffee. Our rooms were cozy & comfortable & had wonderful pieces of art and furniture. We later met Jim & Linda Palmer who are very gracious hosts. Jim prepared an amazing breakfast. We forgot an article of clothing & Linda called us shortly after we left & offered to mail it to us. We had such a good time we found it hard to leave. We will definitely recommend Lion & the Rose to our friends.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our three-night stay at The Lion and the Rose B&B in Asheville, NC. The house is absolutely beautiful and our room, Marion Hall, was very elegant and comfortable. My husband wanted an area away from the bed where he could quietly watch football while I slept, and I wanted a functioning fireplace. Marion Hall provided both.

Hot coffee and tea were placed on a tray outside of our room each mornng prior to a scrumptious breakfast in the formal dining room--prepared by Jim. (Snacks/beverages were available in the butler's pantry 24/7.)

A drawer of toiletry items, including earplugs, was provided in the foyer in the event you forgot something. Loved the earplug offering!

Jim and Linda were very gracious hosts. We definately plan to return!

Room Tip: No tub in Marion Hall.

The Inn Keepers and Owners, Jim and Linda have created a truly magnificent B&B experience. Let's face it - bunking for the night inside a B&B takes a certain kind of spirit and adventure. I've always enjoyed the adventure but can say it's rare to experience such thoughtful attention to detail like we did at the Lion & The Rose Bed & Breakfast. Upon our arrival, which was earlier than expected, Jim and Linda greeted us with smiles and warmth. Promptly and attentively, they showed us their inn and provided details to to their home to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The Thomas Craig Room on the top floor afforded us privacy from other guests that one doesn't always get at a B&B and well worth the price! I'm a linen snob and the sheets at this Inn were soft, superior thread count -and down pillows! I'm convinced the mattress had a featherbed overlay too- it was the most enjoyable night of sleep away from home! The fireplace, spacious shower and jacuzzi provided added fun and spoiling that made the bustling 24hours of fun in Asheville easy despite the lengthy walks and tours we indulged in at the Estate! To top our experience off - a coffee and tea delivery to our door in the morning!!! They do offer a breakfast which smelled amazing, but we had more to see before leaving town and opted out of this delight. We will be back! And if in Asheville, you should visit the Lion & The Rose - I posted on FB, "there isn't a hotel that compares -it's like little elves plant the perfect surprises and details here that make the B&B a cut above many others! (And no - I wasn't paid to write this review! LOL)

We like to stay in B&B's when we aren't traveling in our motorhome. Our stay at the Lion and Rose the first weekend of December was excellent. Mr. & Mrs. Palmer went out of their way to make us comfortable and welcome. A pantry with snacks, home made cookies, bottled water, tea, and even an evening sherry were at our fingertips. Every morning we sat at a beautifully set table waiting for Mr. Palmer to wow us with his culinary talents! He takes special care with his menu choices; savory one day sweeter the next. Our room was located on the 2nd floor & was cozy with a queen bed, 2 Queen Ann chairs and in suite, private bath. If I had to find anything to suggest that might have been better for us, it would be the lighting in the bath. My eyes aren't that great any more and we could use a bit brighter fixture. The Inn is located close to town, but the neighborhood was very quiet at night. The Palmers also know the area restaurants very well and helped direct us to great choices. We will suggest the Lion & Rose to anyone visiting Asheville.

You cannot go wrong with the L&R B&B. Jim and Linda Palmer are the best when it comes to hosting such an establishment. The location is just a short drive from downtown and the Biltmore. The breakfast is always well prepared and they will accommodate any dietary need. Very relaxing atmosphere and a everyone is welcomed. The one recommendation I would make is it may be time to consider new mattresses and by saying that I'm really searching for an area to improve!

Room Tip: You can't go wrong with any of the rooms

A wonderful home with great owners whose attention to detail was evident in the way they made our suite comfortable yet rich with wonderful pieces of art and furniture. The breakfast cuisine each morning only added to the quality of our stay; Jim is truly a passionate chef! My husband and I will most certainly return to the Lion and the Rose for our next Asheville trip. What a great atmosphere Jim and Linda have created!
