We spent three nights at this wonderful bed & breakfast in early April. The building is exquisite. The interior walls are covered with beautifully carved oak paneling & trim and Wm. Morris style wall papers. The furniture, window coverings, and rugs are all period pieces. There are several rooms/areas open to all guests: dining rooms, verandas, parlors and drawing rooms. These are great places to read, knit, watch TV or just chat. Three of these areas have gas operated fireplaces. The two upper stories have open areas with upholstered settees & chairs, desks, tables and books. The bedroom we stayed in is located in the tower with a spacious private bathroom which features a claw foot tub. Our antique furnished bedroom provided ample space for two.
Breakfasts were multi-coursed and although served at individual tables, conversation with other guests is easy..Beds are turned down nightly with chocolates. Desserts are laid out each afternoon and evening. Hot tea, coffee and cold drinks are available in the dining area throughout the day. The staff are knowledgeable about the surrounding area and provide helpful dining, sight-seeing and driving suggestions.
Naturally the Biltmore Estate is the big attraction. I recommend adding on a Behind-the-Scenes Tour. I don't recommend the audio tours as the human tour guides located in most rooms can provide equal, if not better, information if you ask. The audio guided people travel in a herd from room to room looking like sheep. There are several good restaurants in both Asheville and the Biltmore Village. The food at Fig is by far the best.
