“Perfect Romantic Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2007

My boyfriend and I experienced a highly personalized stay with fabulous food, company, and accomodations. The owners are very welcoming and accomodating and made us feel at home. The Winesapp Suite was beautifully decorated and spotless. The attention to detail - from a turndown service with chocolates to egyptian robes, to leaving homemade gourmet brownies and baklava for us in our room - made us feel so pampered we didnt want to leave - well at the same time was not overwhelming or intrusive. We had a fabulous vacation at AppleWood Mannor and will be back! The stay there is a vacation in itself - no need to plan anything else!

We stayed for one night. The couple gained control of the property on Feb 2006 and have turned it into a great BB. We enjoyed the hospitality and breakfast.

Only "downside" no TV in the common rooms of some of the suites.

They provided champagne to guest on New Years Eve and were willing to work with our schedule.

Stayed December 2006

We want to send a very belated THANK YOU for your comment on the lack of a television in the large common area. Though we have not changed our mind; of offering television in some rooms BUT not all rooms; to meet our guest's varied requests of each one's different idea of what is 'peace, quiet and relaxation'. We had not considered the option, until you wrote Trip Advisor.com, of placing a communal remote control flat screen television in the living room (of our large, open common area which is almost the entire first floor) for our guests. It didn't take us too long to realize what a brilliant idea you had! So we took your suggestion and in March, 2007, placed a television.

It has turned out to be very successful. Those who want to sit and have conversations on our side porch off the living room sitting in the rocking chairs or the side porch off the formal dining room with bistro tables and chairs; even others in the parlor looking at their lap tops; we now have something for each person's idea of relaxation without their having to go to their room or disturbing another.

We DO read and think about all comments; praises as well as suggestions (but of course we always strive for praises!). Thank you, again.

My husband and I have stayed at quite a few B & B's. This was by far our best experience ever! Friendly and caring host and hostess, lovely location, spotless accomodations, excellent food! We would highly recommend this lovely home for your next getaway. (You will fall in love with their dogs, Maggie and Monty). Our next trip to Asheville would not be complete unless we stay here. :)

Really a lovely place to stay; good location about 30 minute walk(10 minute drive) from downtown. Located in historic Montford district( quiet and tree lined streets). Nancy Merrell and her husband went out of their way to be hospitable. Breakfast was excellent and served elegantly; late afternoon wine and cheese available.

would highly rexcommend it.

Tucked away just far enough for peace and quiet, yet very close to downtown Asheville and the Biltmore, the Applewood Manor was the best part of a vacation I went on recently with my boyfriend.

My first inkling of excellent service was when we arrived later than we said (from taking a scenic route), and the kind folks at the Applewood called to make sure we were okay and didn't lose our way/needed help.

The Applewood is run by incredibly helpful and wonderful people (always great to get advice from locals), a cute couple of a former nurse (talk about attentive and caring!) and a very sweet and jovial husband. Our 'MacIntosh' bedroom was adorable, and like the previous person said, TV and phone free. We had a quaint fireplace and a back porch, and the night we arrived were treated to a late-night snack and some brandy.

This meal was made for us at 10-11 at night, because the owner could tell how tired we were and hadn't eaten a bite. Instantly she offered to make my boyfriend and I a ham sandwich, which was the perfect thing she could've said, because my starving boyfriend was getting grumpy. This treatment was only mirrored in the mornings with the delectable, four-course, fresh homemade breakfasts that were provided for us.

(During our stay we went white-water rafting, on a ghost tour of Asheville, dined in downtown Asheville and shopped, and of course to the Biltmore. Our hosts had advice about all of those things.)

My boyfriend and I made our way through the beautifully furnished home and up the stairs, unpacked, and sat on the porch with lanterns and meal that had been provided for us. The rest of our vaca had been rained out, and this is just what we needed. As I started to sit back on the porch swing, my boyfriend pointed out to the warm Asheville night.

Fireflies danced around the Applewood's roomy hilly backyard and lit up the sky. After a long trip, I finally sighed. I knew this was going to be a perfect stay.
