“Good for overnight stay”

Four Points by Sheraton Asheville Downtown

Stayed overnight midweek since we arrived late (12am) and only needed somewhere to sleep.

Check in was simple--less than 2 minutes.

Rooms are exterior and on 2 levels with no elevator. Lots of traffic noise but the AC helped to drown it out.
Room was large and clean with 2 queen beds. There was a small microwave and fig. Large vanity area outside the bathroom. Bathroom was small and just OK.

Lobby area is small and the continental breakfast area was even smaller. Difficult to get the food and then no where to sit.

Reasonable price of $65 including taxes.

I was terrified to check in to this hotel after reading all the bad reviews, but was extremely surprised and pleased with my weekend stay there.

When we checked in we were greeted by 2 ladies who were very professional and polite. The lady that checked us in looked at the rate that we had been given when we reserved the room, said that she thought that was too high and reduced the rate. I mean, how often does this happen? So, this got our stay off to a great start.

Keep in mind that the entire hotel has been in the process of being completely renovated, so there are some wires showing and a few tiles missing from the ceiling.

We got up to our room to find a renovated room. The carpet looked new and the flat screen TV was a plus. The comforter was pillows were a little dated.

Breakfast was your usual fare with muffins, hard boiled eggs, oatmeal, cereal, fruit, english muffins, etc. As we arrived at the 10 cut off time, the attendant who was picking up the items was extremely nice and offered to get us whatever we wanted that they had.

Overall, the room and service were excellent. We attended a concert at the civic center and were able to walk as the location of the hotel is also excellent. I will be staying at this hotel again.

“Great location, awful stay”

We stayed at this property for a wedding (and its location in downtown Asheville). The bride reserved the block of rooms in March for the August wedding and was promised that hotel renovations would be complete. They were quite far from complete.

Our room had some renovations complete - furniture, some flooring, parts of the bathroom, but overall it was not finished. The hallway was completely bare of finishing details - ceiling lights were attached to the walls, the carpet was filthy and the walls were stripped and electrical lines hung from the ceiling.

The bed itself was crooked on an old bed frame and had no bed skirt. The bathroom had 'jelly jar' (exterior lighting) lights, no toilet lid and the sink was entirely too small and leaked all over the floor. There was also no towel bar, just a little place below the sink for hand hand towels. There was one small mirror in the bathroom, no full length mirror or other mirrors in the room at all. The comforter and pillows were well worn and very uncomfortable.
(see photos)

The new flat panel TV was nice, but there were few channels to choose from and the remote had some issues. The room decor was modern.

We were able to overlook the details of the incomplete renovation, even the awful breakfast, but our last straw was the front desk help. Several times in our 3 night stay our door key refused to work. Each time the front desk staff lectured us not to put it near a cell phone or wallet and accused us of 'messing it up.' After the 4th time of it not working, we discovered it was our door lock that was not working. The hotel was full and could not move us, so we cautiously closed our room door knowing we would have a difficult time re-entering. The morning we went to check out the door lock completely stopped working; we could not get back into our room (with many of our belongings still inside). Since it was a Sunday morning, no manager or maintenance person was on the property and was not scheduled to come in. We were once again lectured about the card key and no one would believe that our door just wouldn't open. It took 2 hours for them to locate the metal key to let us in. Upon our check-out, which was late, they were huffy that we were leaving later - and it was not our fault!

We would never consider returning to this hotel with so many other choices in Asheville. The location is great, but no worth the headaches.

I stayed here on a recent business trip when no other accommodations were available. It was the week of Bele Chere in Asheville, a large event and big draw for the area. My room was a mixture of old dorm and new Omni. The bathroom had been completely renovated and looked fabulous. The furniture was new and modern. The drapes, carpet and bedspreads were old, worn out and grungy. There were (albeit laminate), hardwoods as you walked in the door, but the lighting was so bad, I could not read anything in the room. Very dark and dreay if not for the new huge t.v. Until renovations are completed, I would stay in a tent before staying here again. Most hotels do renovations in stages and floors where the guests are not subjected to the mess, but not this place. Funny thing, I grew up around there and can remember when this place was a nice, new Sheraton long, long ago. Hope they are able to bring it back around.

Not a good experience. The hotel is currently undergoing renovations and instead of putting us in the newly renovated area, we were located one floor BELOW the construction--which started at 7am on Monday morning. Do not plan on sleeping in! Even worse, the AC barely worked. We were told by the hotel staff this was a design flaw when it was first installed! The room was over-furnished, leaving little room for luggage. The toilet didn't have a lid! There was poor lighting and even worse, the outlets were barely functioning b/c any time you plugged something in, it slipped out of the outlet. The staff tried to be accomodating but it wasn't enough. Stay somewhere else and save yourself the grief!
