“You can't go wrong with Crooked Oak”

My wife and I don't do B&B's much but we tried this one. Conclusion: Crooked Oak is a special place, regardless of the type of accommodation. The proprietors, Patti and Bear, are gifted is how I'd put it. They're both very friendly, energetic, caring, warm people who have loads of taste with food and design. The breakfasts are breathtaking, to say the least, and the rooms are gorgeous. Our first night there the power went out from the deluge gripping Asheville lately. But it was fun nonetheless, sort of like summer camp. P&B kept everyone happy, fed and safe, and built a sense of esprit de corps with the guests. No panic, just competence. We had a few chats with them and some of their loyal guests over the next two nights too and learned a lot about the Asheville area. While the Crooked Oak experience is perhaps more personal than some may want, I got the sense that P&B were sensitive about giving each guest the space they wanted. Finally, a shout out to Ron who helps P&B around the Inn. Ron has a great touch with landscaping. The place is really lovely, little paths winding around the hill the Inn is perched on. All in all a really superb experience. Nice folks committed to excellence. So rare these days.

Room Tip: We stayed in Dogwood and Willow. Loved both. Don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

We loved our time spent in Asheville. It was all due to Crooked Oak Mountain Inn. Patti and Bear were warm and friendly and recommended a great place to dine. Chef Bear made a breakfast an extravaganza with his sweet breads and waffles. BTW....most comfortable bed we've every slept on while on vacation. Bear, you really got this B&B thing down!!!!

This was my first stay at the Crooked Oak Mountain Inn, but certainly not the last! Have visited Asheville many times, staying in other B&Bs and nice hotels--which I've enjoyed. There is something quite special though about Crooked Oak. The setting is lovely and is truly a hidden gem--secluded, lush and beautiful landscaping, and very soothing. Patti and Bear are delightful hosts--ready with great suggestions for actvities and restaurants plus their loft library offers additional local info. Their warm welcome (and glass of wine once we were settled in) set a much welcomed, inviting tone. Breakfasts were scrumptious and enjoyed on the deck. Our room, one of the smaller ones with personal bath across the hall, was comfy and attractive. Many of the rooms have private decks, and there are many attractive seating areas outside and inside. Especially enjoyed chatting with Patti who made us feel like special friends. Looking forward to a return visit!

My sister and I stayed at the Crooked Oak Mountain Inn in June when we spent a week traveling through the North Georgia Mountains and North Carolina. The Crooked Oak Mt Inn was our favorite place to stay out of all places we stayed. Patti was out of town but Bear was the perfect host! The breakfast he made was delicious and our only complaint was that we only got to stay one night! We definitely will stay there again on our next trip to Asheville!

In my work-a-day world, I have a very intense job. When I go on vacation with my husband, one of the major points of any spot we pick is for complete withdrawal from the tech world. Last month was our second visit to Crooked Oak, and we were every bit as awed as the first time - if not more so. Bear and Patti greeted us warmly upon our arrival as if we were old friends. We were in a different room (Chestnut) from the first time (Willow), but it was just as lovely and comfortable. Both hosts helped us plan activities surrounding our needs, and their suggestions were right on target. The breakfasts were every bit as wonderful as we remembered. We took a walk on one of the trails on the property, and liked being part nature for a while. Lastly on our porch, we could just read, listen to the birds, watch the sunset and achieve my goal of relaxation. After our three day stay, I was relaxed and ready to resume my "real" world activities. David and Joan

This was our first trip to the Asheville area. I saw this place and so glad we choose to stay there. It is secluded, yet only 15 minutes from the action. The hospitality was wonderful & the breakfasts were delicious! A beautiful paridise!!!

Room Tip: The Mountain Laural room had a cute little private patio, perfect!

We stayed here about 2/3 of the way through a 2-week 2500-mile visit to NC and KY in our Corvette. We've been to lots of B&Bs over the years. This one stands out as something special. Big Hint: follow Mike and Patty's road directions! Ignore whatever your GPS is telling you! We chose to foolishly follow our GPS. It took us way up into the mountains on some of the twistyest, tiniest roads we've ever seen. It was almost frightening....and we were in a Corvette!

Once we arrived, we were greeted by two of the friendliest folks you'll ever meet, Mike (aka Bear) and Patty. We felt at home instantly, and that feeling never left. We had just done 500+ miles in the Vette, were pretty whipped, and didn't really feel like finding a restaurant back down in Asheville. No problem: they had previously made arrangements with a couple of restaurants in town who would deliver!

The room was great, spotlessly clean. The grounds are a joy to walk through. Their two dogs are great fun. Breakfast was just wonderful, and as others have noted, if you're offered MIke's special waffles, take 'em.

We expect to get back to Asheville periodically. We wouldn't stay anywhere else. You shouldn't either. This is all you need to know about B&Bs in Asheville.
