Description: While we revere the time-honored traditions of the Southern cook, you will find our take on the Southern plate a little different. Because Tupelo Honey Cafe is a little different. Our transformation of just about everything Southern - from fried chicken to sweet potatoes to catfish - is decidedly spirited, independent, and frequently unscripted. Creativity rules in our kitchen where our larder is filled with scratch-made, inventive goodness. We ratchet up our flavors so they're on par with the farm-fresh produce we love. And we serve it all with a healthy measure of fun - with our heartfelt promise of delivering an experience worthy of the memories that tend to be made around our table.

“Great Southern Cuisine w/ a Twist”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2010

Great menu, fun atmosphere and well-priced options. Previous reviews are accurate about the cafe being a very popular place with locals and tourists so be prepared to wait. At 11am on a Wed in December we had to wait 15 min for a table for two. Luckily our names went on a wait list and were given a buzzer that allowed us to walk around the hip downtown shopping area. Upon being seated we received freshly made biscuits with blueberry jam. I had the grilled cheese with 2 garden vegetable sides (there is a list of a dozen great options like sweet potatoe fries, benne asparagus, fried green tomatoes, cheesy cauliflauer and new Southern greens) and my husband had the Charleston BLT. We were served quickly and thoroughly enjoyed the meal.

“Good food, horrible service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2010

We heard good things about the food, when we got there at 10:30 sunday, they had delayed there opening until 11 due to inclement weather, they promptly opened at 11, by this time there was a huge line outside, lucky for my fiancee and I, we were 2nd in line, but when we got seated not so lucky. We were prepared to order and went to place our order but the waitress told us she needed to have her whole section seated first, she took our drink order. Well, during this time the restaurant filled up and by the time we took our order we had been sitting at least 15 minutes. We see food coming out of the kitchen to other tables that were seated way after us. We finally get to order and I ordered the french toast special, 10 minutes later our watress told us they are out of the special so either I missed an opportunity or they did not have the special to begin with. So, I had to re-order, well 45 minutes after being the second couple seated since they opened many tables had all ready started to be turned and we have not even gotten our food yet. They were too busy to care about customer service and really the food was good but not great to experience the horrible service and customer service we received not only from our waitress but from the hostesses as well. If you need to be on a schedule or you enjoy good service when you go out. This is not the place to go!

“good food, terrible service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2010

Haven't eaten there for 2 1/2 years because the food is good but the front service was so rude and unaccomodating that we have chosen not to return. We've never had terrific service here and the last tiem was terrible. Food is good.

“Bring your appetite”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2010

If you are visiting Asheville, NC, make the time to eat at Tupelo Honey Cafe. It was a 50 minute wait for a Saturday lunch in November, but well worth the wait. I tried the meatloaf and it was very good. One person in our party ordered the grit cakes which had too much hot sauce on them and were - for me - just ok. Bloody Mary was very good.
