Description: While we revere the time-honored traditions of the Southern cook, you will find our take on the Southern plate a little different. Because Tupelo Honey Cafe is a little different. Our transformation of just about everything Southern - from fried chicken to sweet potatoes to catfish - is decidedly spirited, independent, and frequently unscripted. Creativity rules in our kitchen where our larder is filled with scratch-made, inventive goodness. We ratchet up our flavors so they're on par with the farm-fresh produce we love. And we serve it all with a healthy measure of fun - with our heartfelt promise of delivering an experience worthy of the memories that tend to be made around our table.

“Too bad we weren't on time.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2009

Be aware that despite rave reviews and recommnedations by all, many Asheville restaurants close between lunch and dinner. I have never seen this strange custom anywhere else, but we were tripped up twice when looking for a late lunch in this town.

“Farm to Table faire, with local and organic focus”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2009

We were very pleased with our decision to wait for a table (15-20 minutes on a Thursday evening). We were provide a pager and able to walk across the street at local park and enjoy local entertainment (during our wait belly dancers were performing). We like their focus on organics, local food (beer and wine as well), and seasonal and farm to table faire. Staff was very attentive and friendly. Recommend the nutty chicken with a Pisgah beer

“Outstanding Service and Reasonably Priced”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2009

Our waiter was awesome - the best of our whole trip to North Carolina. We enjoyed the restaurant more thanks to his pleasantness and attentiveness. Ok, quirky reins in Asheville. The food was a bit off for a number 4 rated restaurant - the combination in the "bowl" dish for breakfast just did not quite hang together: too many pinto beans and the soysage was too crispy. That said, I'd still recommend the place as the food was innovative and the presentation was great.

“Must Agree...Worth the Wait !!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2009

We had a late lunch here on Sept. 12th and yes, we did have to wait ! They close at 3 pm but I'm sure lunch runs right into dinner for the staff. We had a great table outside and a friendly server who is also a very skilled woodworker (check out the wooden boxes for the pecan pies they will ship). The food was excellent ! Watch out for the fabulous biscuits...I took half my lunch with me because I couldn't resist.
