“Food and service a real revelation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2013

We arrived for an early dinner to catch the sunset and spectacular view, never expecting such a fabulous dinner. Our waiter, Ralph, was as good as they come. Every need was anticipated.
The bread plate (or should I say "slate") alone was a treat with bread baked in house.
The salad was so fresh it would walk if it had legs.
The pasta dish and the grouper were cooked to perfection, beautifully served, and perfectly dressed.
Dessert (mousse and chocolate/orange ice cream) was as good as those I've had in the best restaurants in Europe.
We will definitely return!

“Shocking !!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

We found that we were going to be near Asheville next Wednesday, 9/24 and decided to stay at the Omni Grove Park Inn and eat that evening at their better restaurant, Horizons. I called and made both reservations and mistakenly thought that everything was taken care of. Well it was, until a few minutes ago when I received a phone call from the Grove Park and a lady said "In regard to your reservation at Horizons, we have booked a large group into that restaurant that night and you might have a better dining experience if you switch your reservation to another one of our restaurants". I replied that I was shocked that they would book a group into their top restaurant that they felt would diminish the dining experience of their other guests. I knew that they had no rooms available the following night and asked that she cancel both my room and dining reservation for if they have a group so large that it might be disruptive for dining, I am sure that the rest of the Inn might experience the same. Strange way to handle a long time guest !!

“Horizons”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013

As an expat who thrives on great food I was amazed by the quality of the offerings at Horizons. The new chef and our server (Sherry) make the experience truly a 4 start experience. Recall the Michelin guide only allows 4 starts and there is only a single 4 star restaurant (currently) in all of North America: the Montreal Casino's. I think Horizons will earn the 2nd one shortly.

The location of this restaurant makes it a definite one to experience. The food was excellent, however the prices were very high!

“What a Delicious Celebration!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

We reserved a table to celebrate our 42nd anniversary---and what a celebration it was. The dining room is small. We were seated at a window table which overlooked the golf course, the mountains and the beautiful grounds of the Grove Park Hotel. The young hostess, Brittany, who seated us was so excited about our celebration that she shared it with everyone. The servers were quite knowledgeable and helped us select the wine for our celebration and explained in detail the couple of entrees we were interested in having. The bread tray was served with a trout spread, as well as butter and had several types of bread included. We shared a wedge salad with Benton's bacon, stilton blue cheese and cherry tomatoes. He chose the grouper with herbed spaetzle, spinach and wild mushrooms in a black light garlic broth. The various flavors complemented ach other and yet you could still taste each. I had the pan seared Georges Bank scallops served in a bowl of little neck clam stew which was like a light broth with roasted brussel sprouts and butternut squash with a hint of maple syrup or sorghum. The vegetables mixed with the natural sweetener was delicious. The scallops were cooked to perfection. For dessert we had a terrine which was layered with cookie crumb crust, caramel, dark chocolate and milk chocolate with a scoop of basil ice cream. And, just when we thought the evening was coming to an end, the server arrived at the table with a plate spelled out with Happy Anniversary in chocolate with 2 hand made chocolate truffles. What a delicious celebration!

Make this a must the next time you are in Asheville....we certainly will.
