“Good stop on the parkway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

There are always some really neat crafts and local pottery, quilts, etc here. They have a different exhibit every time I stop in. It is nice for visitors to get a chance to see what Western NC craftsmanship is all about.

“Really Nice..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

They have beautiful art but priced very high. The art of local artists in the second floor was the best part....and priced reasonable!

The crafts to look at upstairs are amazing. The permanent collection is superb. They need a elevator for the handicapped.the ramp is to steep to be pushing a wheelchair.I have made a few purchases in the girt shop all fine quality.

“Support regional artisans!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013

If you shop here, you are supporting an area artist. The Folk Art Center is part of the Southern Highlands Craft Guild which adds only a few artists from Southern Appalachian counties to its membership each year. It's not all North Carolina, but neither is Southern Appalachia. The jewelry selection is particularly strong, but you'll find pottery, woodturning, weaving, quilting and more as well. Don't forget to check the gallery upstairs as well. There are always exhibits of member work and they change regularly. I did most of my Christmas shopping here and at New Morning Gallery last year and it's so much more pleasant than going to the mall.
