“FUN!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

I went with a group of ladies that I work with. It was so much fun! The acting is good considering the actors and actresses are volunteers. The location can be a bit tricky to find, but it is a really good venue once you get there. It is so fun to watch a play under the stars.

“Passion! Talent! Playfulness!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

This company is comprised of devoted Shakespeare enthusiasts with the acting chops to bring the text to life. Creative staging in a bucolic setting on a hillside within ten minutes walking distance of downtown Asheville. At the best price of all: FREE! It doesn't get much better than this. Support the theater arts and learn to love Shakespeare if you don't already. Go! Go! Go!

“Worth every cent! (FREE)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2012

But you will want to put some money in the actors' hats at intermission. I have seen many productions of this company over the years and all have been memorable. The plays come alive with enthusiasm and talent. And the bucolic setting is the icing on the cake.

“Shakespeare par excellent!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

We were invited by a friend to see the Montford Park Players perform Richard II one of Shakespeare's plays not performed as frequent as the others. We went out of kindness to our friend. My view of Shakspeare up to this time was the required reading of Hamlet in highschool and hating it. WOW what a difference in seeing his work performed live! I highly recommend going to see any work of Shakespeare that the Montford Park Players present. The have been doing this for 40 years. The acting is great and the enthusiasm of the actors is so good. The setting is in an outdoor amphitheatre. Brinmg your own chairs, blankets maybe a cooler and jacket for evenings. There were a few bugs but nothing excessive. The performances are free but the hat is passed during intermission. The play started at 7:30 and ended at 10:30. Once you adjust yourself to the language of the time it becomes a very enjoyable experience. They do rent blankets and chairs, sell drinks and assorted candy. After the performance was over the actors (who are all volunteers who love what they do) come out in the audience. One fine actor Christopher Stanton spoke to us at length. His enthusiasm is contagious. We will be back.

“A Hidden Gem in Montford”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2012

We try and hit this at least once a summer. It's best on cool evenings, bring a picnic basket and a bottle of wine and sit as close as you can. It's outdoor local free theatre and it's great.
