“First pick was right pick”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

After arriving in Asheville tired from hiking and fighting colds, we walked up the street from the Downtown Inn to find a place to eat dinner. Jack of the Wood was the first place we hit. We like pubs, beer, and fish and chips, so in we went. We got the last table, a quiet one in the back. In the front, some sweet live Celtic musicians were huddled. Service was excellent, food was fine, beer choices were plentiful, jalapeno poppers were way too hot. The place has a really nice vibe and we'd go back.

“Friendly Celtic atmosphere in downtown Asheville”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

We visited twice - and enjoyed a celtic jam session on Sunday night. The scotch eggs were fantastic - soft yolk, but with crispy sausage/bacon outside. The fish tacos were fresh and light. Shepard's pie was yummy.

“Pleasant convenient surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

The Monk's across the street and not open til 4 so there's the Jack. Lots of choices and couple of benches on the side walk. Don't often come across ESBs, much less a cask ... Good service, Nice chat about where to find barbecue and a tasty beer.

“Super Pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

Great selection of beers. I chose the "double chocolate stout" which was unbelievably delicious. The atmosphere was great! Had two wonderful experiences here while on my 5 day trip to Asheville. Would highly recommend Jack of the Wood. Good food, too.

“Great entertainment”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

Jack of the Wood has live music every night which is unusual for a local pub. Good pub food and a good beer selection make this a good stop, especially for some end of evening music.
