“Great place to enjoy nature”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2014

My husband and I loved it here. Great place to enjoy nature and possibly have a picnic. Tons of photographers there as well to capture the beauty in portraits. There was also a wedding ceremony there so that could be something to consider as well.

“great experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2014

We did the 7 mile kayak trip, really enjoyed it. 7 miles sounds like a long way, but we are both novices and didn't have any issues at all. The nice people at AOC drive you to a start point so that you are travelling with the current. You can paddle when you want, or float and steer the kayak and still get back just fine. Really neat to see the views of Biltmore from the water, have to pay attention or you will miss it. It was nice to talk with Dave and the other great people at AOC, I could have sat in the hammock chair for a long time. The owner and all of the employees are very customer oriented and make you feel at home.

“Kayaking, 7 mile trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2014

Superb place for taking a trip down the French Broad River; it's a 7 mile trip (about 3-5 hrs) depends on if you let river take you or are paddling. Great views of Biltmore Estate, mountains and scenery. They offer camping sites at the center, snacks, soda (pop) and beer. Wonderful little place for the family!

“A magical afternoon on the French Broad”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2014

From the moment we arrived it was clear that the Asheville Outdoor Center was not one of those tourist destination ready to shove you in the water and let you go. David the owner and his welcoming crew immediately made us feel like family, and every detail of the trips they offer showed how professional and caring they are. Even though the river is very calm with only a few tiny "rapids", the lecture and video they gave before we hit the water was reassuring. This is a family venture providing all kinds of watercraft, something for everyone regardless of strength or skill. I was a little early for my float, so David showed me around. Such a sweet man! He shared memories of carrying his now grown babies around while he and his wife built their dream business. Even his mom and dad were involved. We didn't see any bears, although one had been reported crossing the river that morning. We did see several birds. In the distance the majestic Biltmore estate rose over romantic riverbanks. The 7 mile trip was over too fast! As we waved goodbye to David and the helpful crew, my friend and I both agreed we needed to come back to this amazing spot again and again. ,

“Great river trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2014

Did the 7-mile trip down the French Broad form Bent Creek back to the AOC center. Have my own equipment so just used their shuttle service. People at the AOC were all friendly, helpful, on time. Price was very reasonable. I would definitely use them again in the Asheville area.
