“Clean well managed property”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

Brookstone Lodge is a great place to stay in the Asheville area. Facility is clean, staff is very friendly and knowledgeable of the surrounding attractions (Biltmore Estate) and downtown dining and attractions. Lodge is located about 10 minutes from downtown. Quick access to central roads and throroughfares.

Stopped in Asheville for a two night stay at the Brookstone as a stopover to home from Myrtle Beach area and to visit the Biltmore Estate. While the hotel is older yet renovated and on a busy highway, it was perfect for our needs. It is conveniently located close to downtown Asheville, the Biltmore (1 1/2 miles), and expressways. We found the public spaces clean, the staff friendly and helpful, and the breakfast buffet in the morning very nice with both warm and cold selections. (How many places still offer you 5 different juices in the morning?) We played games around the fireplace at night and had the place to ourselves, even though the hotel was sold out. The pool was nice but a little on the cool side, so we used the jacuzzi instead. They have a small shop behind the front desk for snacks and they had popcorn which we popped in the room. The rooms aren't the best with sound but the hallways were relatively quiet none-the-less. Rooms are spacious and clean with microwave, small frig, flat screen tv and fast wireless internet. Beds and pillows were a bit on the hard side, but had nice linens. The room was decorated nicely. The bathroom was the only negative comments I could bring up, with a bit of a mildew problem with the grout about the tub. ( Seems to be the norm with hotels who have gone to the larger slabs of granite to surround the older tubs with the rounded shower curtain rods.) Certainly nothing to deter a stay at this nice reasonably priced hotel. I would highly recommend to the value seeker.

Room Tip: Ask for a room off the street and not near the elevator or first floor if you prefer quiet.

The lodge has honest employees. I left a white gold ring in the room. The manager contacted me to ask if it belonged to us. Great integrity! I recommend this lodge because it's minutes away from the Biltmore House.

We've used a variety of hotels in the Asheville area in the past, and chose what appeared (on the web) to be a step up in quality for this six night trip. Although the entry and exterior have a pleasant appearance, the rooms (we had 2) were a huge disappointment. Our first room had a wall mounted air conditioner that throbbed when the compressor came on, and rattled loudly throughout the night - to the point that my sleep was hugely disturbed.

After one night, the manager found us a new room, and to be fair, the noise was less - but there was still enough of a rattle to be disturbing. However, to use my wife's description, this room smelled like a swamp.

I am not a light sleeper, and I've encountered many hotel rooms with similar AC units without ever experiencing noises as bad as this.

In neither of the rooms did the extract fan in the bathroom work, causing a perpetually damp bathroom and towels.

The advertised pool was much smaller than we expected, and the hot breakfast featured greasy meats (bacon, meat patties, links) that were of poor quality. Likewise the coffee - if there's anything a hotel can do to turn people off it is to use cheap coffee in the rooms and the breakfast area!

Room Tip: Find another hotel!

Stayed 2 nights. Road noise was a major problem for me. Requested in advance to be away from highway side, but request was ignored! They need to upgrade there windows to keep noise out. Breakfast was average.

We get great comments on our breakfast. It is a hot, deluxe continental style breakfast, so not just muffins and cereal! In addition to traditional continental fare, we have eggs and sausage, a waffle station, and great coffee! We are happy to make accommodations for guests that prefer a certain side of the building or an upper floor. Just let us know!

If you are looking for a place to sleep and shower that is relatively clean, this place is fine. The employees were nice. It was handy to have a microwave and fridge in the room. Priceline has this categorized as "Downtown" which is absolutely untrue. This hotel is in a strange location near the interstate. The room smelled as is there had been water damage; we had to go buy air freshener. There was a dead roach in the A/C unit, but everything else was clean. The other thing that really bothered me was that there was no secondary lock on the room door, such as the typical bar guard lock or even a chain lock. I did not feel very secure in that anyone with a keycard could walk in at any time.

Thanks for the review. We think the location is great. A short drive to downtown, and less than 2 miles to the Biltmore Estate and Blue Ridge Parkway. We apologize for any odor. We have not had any water damage to date. Security is important to us and that is why we have indoor corridors to access the rooms and every room is designed with a secure key lock and a deadbolt for added convenience!

Stayed for one night. Property is just off the expressway in a business area and very close to Biltmore Estate and Biltmore Village. There is also some sort of amusement facility adjacent to the property that had go-karts, arcade etc etc. but we didn't go there. I think we thought that it was a little closer to some ammenities, but it really is a property that you need a car at. Property is decorated like a mountain lodge, but probably could use a bit of a freshening and updating in some areas. Our room was clean and functional though and was just fine for one night. Service was fine, no complaints there. Parking is free and in front of the property and the rate made this property pretty good value in my mind. If we came through again, we might look to stay downtown or in an area that we could have a few more ammenities within walking distance, but I would also stay at Brookstone Lodge again.

We appreciate your comments. The feedback is important to us. We are not directly in downtown, but with some great directions from our friendly front desk team, we can get you there quickly! Hope to see you next time you are in Asheville!
