“Good value and nice place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

We thought that the price for the room was fair. We paid $79 plus tax for a nice room with two queen beds. It was odd that the one king bed was $99 - did not make sense, but we chose the lower priced room. The room was pleasant, clean, attractive, and plenty of space in the room. We had a coffee maker, microwave and small refrigerator. The outside of the lodge was attractive, clean the staff was great. We would gladly return if we were in the area.

Not a bad spot, especially if you consider your hotel a "home base". However, if you want to spend a lot of time at your hotel, this may not be the spot for you. Everything is updated and clean. Everyone seems friendly and helpful. It's really just a decent place to lay your head. Room is small and there is not view of anything that I can tell, unless you like looking at the highway. If you like to get out and go this is a very convenient stay.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

We spent four nights in Asheville before and after a trip to Great Smokey National Park, and stayed in two of the TripAdvisor top-rated hotels, Brookstone Lodge and Country Inn and Suites in West Asheville. Both were fine places to stay, with similar room rates. Country Inn is visibly classier with more amenities, but Brookstone’s location is much better for visiting the Biltmore Estate, and closer to the restaurants and shops in Biltmore Village and downtown Asheville.

Brookstone Lodge had excellent beds, including a perfect mid-weight comforter (not too heavy like some places!) that allowed very comfortable sleeping. Furnishings include a comfy chair and good lighting. Good bathroom, though the exhaust system did not seem able to clear the steam after our showers. Breakfast was certainly adequate, including eggs and waffles and some limited fresh fruit. Staff were friendly and helpful. We had booked for two nights but wanted to add a third. They were fully booked, but paid attention to our request and called us during the day to say they’d had a cancellation and had booked us for the third night. Sound proofing seemed minimal; we were briefly aware of a baby crying down the hall, which fortunately ended well before our bedtime, and seemingly heavy-footed stomping in the room above us - a room on the top floor might be a bit quieter.

We had reservations for 3 nights but cut it short because the bed was too hard for us to sleep on. They added a pillowtop after we asked about a softer mattress but it didn't help much. We suffered 2 nights with little sleep and considerable pain. I think it pretty much ruined the trip for us. To be fair, this hotel was recommended to me by a younger colleague so maybe we are just too old and/or used to a soft bed. Another problem we encountered on the 2nd night is that the walls must be pretty thin because our neighbors were up well after midnight talking loudly and occasionally whooping and hollering and neither the TV nor our sleep sound machine could drown them out. The last major complaint was about the free breakfast: nasty tasting orange and cranberry juice, watery eggs, and they did not restock the sauage in a timely manner. Minor complaints are the bedside clock had to be replaced, the room with one king bed seemed a little cramped, and the staff were less than engaging. On the positive side, the room seemed clean and the bathroom, A/C, TV, fridge, and microwave worked well.

We enjoyed a fresh clean room at Brookstone Lodge. The beds were just the right amount of mattress comfort, not unbearably soft or rigidly hard. The bathroom was clean and had absorbent towels and consistent water pressure for a refreshing shower. There were no little bottles of soaps or lotion, the bathroom shower had refillable containers for shampoo and body wash. I respect this decision by the hotel. It really helps the environment and my philosophy of reduce, reuse and recycle. Breakfast was plain and boring although clean and plentiful. There were individual yogurts which I enjoy and the oatmeal packets were fine. But, there were no toppings for the oatmeal which was a bit sad. I would suggest breakfast elsewhere. The view was not picturesque, just a simple view of the parking lot and some trees and the fun center. Which makes the hotel a great place for a family stay, having a fun center right next door. We really appreciated the closeness to The Biltmore just a few miles up the road and a fun drive through town. Perfect place to rest a weary head if you are there to see the beautiful sights of North Carolina.

Read reviews of many and picked this one. All reviews said clean and it was especially the bathroom. The breakfast area was cozy and had everthing you could think of. Close to Biltmore Estate but DO NOT use your GPS or you will end up well just use your map or call hotel like I did when we got lost over and over. Price was better than advertised and way better than calling hotel direct.

Thanks for the review! Nice to read you had a great time once you found us. We are conveniently located just off of exit 51 on I-40. But it is important if you are relying on a navigation system to put in our zip code of 28803. There is more than one Roberts Road in town. We look forward to you next trip.

Booked reservations after reading many reviews. Several negative experiences on this visit leads me to believe they have some fundamental problems, starting with the customer facing employees.

Check in: Paper at the desk notifying that the hot tub was out of order. Disappointing, but it happens. Expressed some disappointment to the check-in person, go an "oh well" response. Didn't express disappointment, didn't offer to discount the room. Did suggest we go look for another place. There seemed to be no welcoming for w new guest.

Room: room was clean, as well the bath. Water pressure to so good, but OK.

Pool: cold, but tolerable. Ran out of pool towels.

Breakfast: Disaster. Plenty if people, so things happen. The breakfast crew, Matt, not appropriate for that role. Asked Matt if there was more waffle mix, "I'M GETTING IT." He said this when the manager was present. I asked if this is how they treated their guests, and got what i can describe as an oh well response. His girlfriend must have been waiting for him, since he continued to comment how bad the guests were, and how he couldn't wait to get out of there. Ran out of milk and plates. Front desk crew saw him struggling, and finally came from around the corner to help after about 30 minutes.

Check out: no smiles, no thank you for staying with us. "How was your stay?" "Not up to our expectations." "Sorry to hear that". I finally had to ask for a discount based on my experiences, and they obliged.
