We booked two rooms and brought our dog. Rooms are on the small and a little dark/on the quaint side but beds are really comfortable and the hotel's smaller size gives you a more intimate feel. Please note that much of Asheville maintains a dark mountain character so we didn't view our room color shade as a negative. There is some street noise during day but at night outside of the occasional ambulance we heard very little (street traffic declines significantly after 7PM). Others have mentioned a train but neither of our rooms heard a train in the two nights we stayed there.
Fitness room is small but they have Precor ellipticals (with TV's), bikes along with several weight machines along with dumbbell stack. Thus, i give them high marks.
Food: We didn't sample lunch or dinner but we all felt that the breakfast was fabulous. Great selection of food, relatively inexpensive and it sure tasted great! Eggs, pancakes, yogurt, coffee--you name, it was good!
Staff: Really friendly from valet to front desk to food staff.
btw: You are right outside the Biltmore gate and can walk across the street to visit a number of small shops. Location is near I-40 which gets you access all over Asheville area.
Bottom line: we have stayed at Grove Park Inn but were not impressed. We plan on staying here with our dog whenever we visit Asheville.
