“Not to be missed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2014

After 2 attempts at finding this place open, we planned a time during the week to go. It's only open weekdays 11-4. The line was not terribly long at 1:30 and moved quickly. Worth the wait! Ribs were great with the available sauce. Mac and cheese, yummy! Split the whole rack between two of you as sides are plentiful too. No ambience, but who cares??!

“Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2014

We were told that you HAD to go to 12 Bones while in Ashville. We stayed at the Pisgah Inn the night before on the Blue Ridge Parkway. They had blueberry ribs on the dinner menu and we loved them! Then went to the original 12 Bnes and were very disappointed. Our ribs were dry, the sides were over done and the place wasn't clean. Not going back

“Over Rated!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2014

I sorry i just don't get it. Being from Memphis i consider myself somewhat of a BBQ snob. The ribs are horrible and the green beans were greasy. YUCK

“Best Barbeque Ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2014

12 Bones Smokehouse is a sort of dive. Indoor/outdoor dining. I ordered the wedge salad with 4 ribs. Wow! Not what I expected! Wedge of lettuce with chipotle dressing and smoked bacon covered with thin continuous onion ring and amazing ribs. Fantastic! The rubs and sauces are exceptional and unexpected. WILL BE BACK!

“Epic BBQ!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2014

The aroma draws you in, the flavor keeps you coming back.

They're only open 5 hours (11am to 4pm), but it's not something that you want to miss if you're in the Asheville area. They have 2 locations; the one on Riverview Dr (located in the Art District) and the other one on Sweeten Creek Rd. The atmosphere is friendly and casual.

I've only been to the one on Riverview Dr, but this has become a favorite place to eat.

Their sandwiches are fantastic. My favorite is the Hogzilla, which has pulled pork, bacon & bratwurst with pepperjack cheese. The meats are smoked and moist and can be eaten without any BBQ sauce if that is your choice. Of course if you prefer a sauce, then they also have a selection of BBQ sauces to choose from.

The portions are excellent for the price. And if you don't have the time to wait in line, then you can call in an order for take out and avoid the line.
