“Rent the audio guide, visit the Legacy exhibit and later Google Cornelia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

The audio guide, at $10 more, is definitely worth it! Learn more about this fascinating family in the Legacy exhibit at Antler Hill, and when you get home, google Cornelia, Vanderbilt's only child, who left Biltmore (and her husband) in 1934 for Europe, never to return. You won't find this racy story in the family history at Biltmore!

Excellent and rapid service in the Stable Café. Gift shops contain superior merchandise.

“An American Gem in Western NC!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

If you have never visited the Biltmore Estates in Asheville, NC I suggest you put in on your bucket list. We are season pass holders and have been there many times. Each time we always seem to find something new. We have been through the main house many, many times and it is always something we missed. They are always renovating different areas of the main house back to the original way it was when it was built. They do extensive research to make sure it is as close as possible to the real deal and spend unreal amounts of money doing so. The restaurants on the property are all excellent. The Inn is a 5 star across the board. The extra adventures you can take are all excellent. During their concert series the venue is unreal and the views amazing. They bring in some of the top performers and bands. For the shoppers there are a lot of great stores. My favorite is the winery tasting room, in particular the high end red wines. That tasting with the cheese plate is one of the best you will find anywhere. Some of the reserve wines are only available at in the wine shop. I always stock up when we go. I feel their wines are some of the best you can buy. I am only talking the ones that are similar to CA wines. I am not a fan of the sweet wines of NC that I don't drink.
Kids will also really enjoy it but not if they are too young to grasp what they are experiencing. The Spring & Fall are obviously the best time since the color of the leaves & tulips, roses, etc. are like a painting from God! But if you plan on going then make reservations early. There are a lot of hotel choices very close to the Biltmore entrance and some partner with them for special rates. Go to their site to check that out. Christmas is also a great time to go and take the evening tour so you can see a ton of decorated trees inside the house along with great live music. If you are going to tour the house ensure you get the headphones so you will get the full description of what you are viewing. One of the best places I have ever visited and I hope you will visit in soon. Enjoy!

“Great visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

What else can I add that the other 4000+ previous reviewers haven't? As everyone else has said, the estate is gorgeous, the house tour is self guided and very interesting look into the past. I imagine this resembles Downtown Abbey, for viewers of that show. Don't be shy about talking to the staff in the main house - they offer a lot of interesting historical information about the building and its inhabitants. The pet kennel is free and unsupervised, located in parking lot C and well shaded. You have to drive to the various locations on the estate, as the shuttles only run from the parking lots to the front house. It's quite possible to spend the whole day there. With few exceptions the staff was very friendly - not sure if it's because it's Biltmore, or because everyone in Asheville seems friendly. If you go in the summer, bring a hat and sunscreen. You'll need them because you'll find yourself losing track of time wandering the grounds.

“Fabulous!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

What a beautiful place. I ordered our tickets in advance on the Biltmore Mansion website, and saved about $10. The audio tour was great--lots of information about the family and the house--and well worth the $10. It was a simply stunning home. It was fun to hear the stories about the family, and see the way people lived. We had a very nice time touring the house and visiting their shops and restaurants. We ate at Cedric's Pub, which is named for the Vanderbilt's St. Bernard, and enjoyed the very friendly employees throughout the estate.
