“luxury in the heart of Asheville”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2012

from the friendly front desk clerk offering glasses of champagne on our arrival to the spacious rooms with great big bathrooms, we had a great experience. Not our first time and not our last. For downtown Asheville stays this is the place. Be sure to ask for rooms with a view. Can't beat the location.

The Haywood is a delightful boutique destination. The hotel is a remodeled turn of the century department store and plays on that concept in a charming way. The front desk service is wonderful - well trained and happy you are there. Even the valets are upbeat and extremely helpful.

The rooms are huge! Furnishings are average. Likewise, the bathrooms are huge; but the shower a bit small to make way for a separate tub.

Outside street musicians and folks gather - which is lovely during the day- but the Elvis guy who performed well into the night was not only off-key, but rather annoying when he started repeating like an 8-track. The. noise from the street was the only negative to the experience as it went on well past midnight. For some reason the Asheville police/fire really like to run their sirens - for just about any reason. But, request a room away from the street and your experience will be much improved

My family stayed at Haywood Park Hotel for several nights, and the room was very nice...however, with no knowledge of the review on this site where the lady described a paranormal event, they indeed experienced a few. My little girl heard another little girl knocking on the hotel room door early in the morning and talking to her (mind you, they were the only occupants on the second floor at the time, and according to staff, there were no other children staying at the hotel), and the second day, also in the early morning, my teenaged son heard the same thing. Late that night, my husband awoke to use the restroom and the in restroom tv had turned itself on.

He asked a member of the staff if they saw or heard unusual things at the hotel, to which the individual replied "only on the third floor." My husband is not easily spooked but even he was creeped out.

You arrive in the vaguely art deco lobby to be greated by a glass of champagne and a free valet service. The rooms are enormous with settees chairs and lots of lounging space. Bathrooms are large and exemplary with an outside sink with makeup mirror and inside whirlpool tub and lots TV. Wow! The location is wonderful if you like strolling in town and not using the car: the best shopping and restaurants are minutes away. It's just a fine hotel and a wonderful experience. We'll go there again!

From the welcoming glass of champagne (or bottle of water) after handing over your car for the free valet service and parking, to the lucious chocolate from Chocolate Fetish left on your pillow, to the farewell bag with granola bar, water, and thank you note from the manager, Haywood Part Hotel is a warm and enjoyable experience. A repurposed department store, it has kept remnants of its former life - an announcement of "Third floor, children's ware" and little display of long-ago children's clothing offerings in the large third floor lobby. Because of its former life and shortage therefore of outside wall space, there are huge lobbies on each floor and the guest rooms are gigantic. Despite being a block away from Grove Arcade and its many restaurants and shops, the hotel is quiet and relaxed. I stayed two nights and will definitely stay again when back in Asheville. There is an on-site restaurant which I didn't try and a nice little bar, which I did. But there are many, many choices an easy walk away.

I had booked rooms at hotel indigo and then found this hotel online. After reading about the history and seeing where it was located smack in the middle if downtown, I quickly cancelled the other rooms. Located in a former department store, the Haywood has been repurposed into a very cool hotel with only 33 rooms. The room is huge as in 3 hotel rooms huge! There is a wet bar in each room with a keurig, large flat screen tv..sitting area with couch and chairs..a bathroom to die for especially on a chick weekend.
Staff is wonderfully attentive and seriously you can not beat location..valet'd car on fri afternoon, picked up at checkout on Sunday. Walk everywhere to restaurants, bars...did I mention chocolate on turndown?
Worth every penny..skip the other hotels. Btw although very pretty..the indigo was in a "upcoming " area and not easy to get to all the cool places.
Wonderful stay!

Room Tip: Some rooms face street and if you love street musicians it's great...other side of floor room ju...

This hotel is right in the center of town and includes free covered parking. Access in and out of the garage was easy and convenient.

As others have mentioned, this is a former department store and the rooms are very large. That also applies to the bathroom with a long, double-sinked counter and excellent lighting. Very comfortable bed, sofa and fridge make for a pleasant stay.

As for the unique quality: outside of your room, is a huge central area where you can wait for the elevator or just hang out and admire the old display cabinets with mannequins in period outfits.

If there is a negative it is that the windows are sealed shut. But that's not necessarily a bad thing because it blocks out much of the street noise. There are some street people around who "play" various musical instruments. They seem pretty harmless and quite untalented so are easy to ignore.

As for the location, it is perfect. Right in the middle of everything with plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. It's less than 10 minutes to the Biltmore and an easy walk or drive to other attractions.
