“Great family hotel in Homestead.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2013 via mobile

This charming family hotel is on a quiet street in Homestead. Rooms were pleasant and clean. The hotel is an excellent value and has a nice welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended. Breakfast is included in the room price.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Redland and it is a great base for visiting Everglades. We had a warm welcome on arrival and staff were friendly throughout.

Evening meal in Whistle Stop was fine and they had some decent beer (quite a rarity in the USA!)

Just a couple of points that could be improved on.....

- provide tea/coffee making facilities in the room
- get rid of the plastic cutlery and polystyrene cups used at breakfast - for the sake of a bit of washing up, it would give a MUCH better impression!

Overall, though, I would definitely recommend

Thank you for staying with and for posting your review. I will definitely take your suggestions into consideration. We use all glass plates and bowls and only use styrofoam cups for the convenience of our patrons. I will definitely rethink this after reading your suggestion.
Thanks again and if you get back to the US please stay with us again.

We booked the hotel because of its proximity to the Everglades park entrance, on the strength of its many favourable reviews and interesting website and out of a desire to avoid chain hotels where possible. We had a warm welcome and were shown to our room - but the only thing said after that was as we left: "hope you had a nice stay...".
This is the only hotel we have ever stayed in where there is no facility to make a drink - maybe that's common in the US, but we missed it. We missed a hairdryer too.
We ate once in the restaurant, which was fine. However we'd have appreciated being told it would be closed on Sunday night. It was more than a little disconcerting to arrive back and find the place in total darkness - no bar, no restaurant, no staff (that we could see).
The continental breakfast (included) is, as other reviewers have commented, 'sparse': cereal, fruit, bread, cake accompanied by disposable cutlery and crockery.
Decor is always a matter of taste, but the room was nowhere near as nice as we expected from the website. However, it was clean and the shower room was fine. We paid extra for a room with a shared balcony - but that was a mistake - a flat roof overlooking the car park added nothing to the ambience.
Our criteria for selecting hotels have usually worked out well, but on this occasion we left feeling a bit deflated.

Thank you for staying with us and for posting a review. We are sorry you were only somewhat satisfied. Someone is always on sight to meet all your needs and requests. The continental breakfast is done as a courtesy and is complimentary and not meant to be a full breakfast. We have a generous supply of fresh fruit, bagels and cream cheese, muffins, cakes, cereals and milk, and coffee and juice. Hair dryers are always available upon request.
We strive to exceed all customer expectations. Thank you kindly.

My wife & I and friends stayed at the Hotel Redland November 5th & 6th. It is EXACTLY as the website portrays it. Super friendly staff, clean sanitary rooms, a cozy bar and good food (particularly the Wood Hole Chicken). We really loved it and are dreaming up an excuse to go back again after the Holiday Season. We used the hotel's central location for us to see the Everglades, Biscayne National Park, Fruits and Juices and the Coral Castle. Check out the Gator Grill on your way to or from the Everglades entrance - another pleasant surprise.

Room Tip: The second floor rooms with balcony access are really nice as is the balcony.

The Whistle Stop is located within the premises of The Redland Hotel in Homestead, FL. One can appreciate the historical timeline of the city through a series of photographs displayed on the walls (super interesting!) It is believed that Al Capone stopped by at this hotel on one of his many trips through Miami! Imagine that :) The food is excellent and the service is superb; always with a smile from the moment you come in to the moment you come out. The restaurant is cozy, well organized and managed. The menu is not too big but it offers a nice variety of different types of food ranging from hamburgers (my son's favorite) to my favorite the "Rattlesnake Pasta" a savory pasta dish for those of us who crave spicy and spunky flavors. It is good quality food, presented well and in friendly atmosphere. I highly recommend it!

We stayed for a few days this summer as a jump off to the Everglades and to visit family while we were in the area. The hotel is in an old historic building in Homestead, FL. It is two stories without an elevator so either request a ground floor room (for handicap access) or enjoy the stairs!

Mark, the owner, was very attentive and was always available for recommendations, directions and just good old conversation. Since we were there during their slow season (mid July) it was very quiet. The hotel itself is very quaint but the bathrooms are updated and there was an updated HDTV in the room with lots of viewing options.

The room comes with a continental breakfast so unless you're used to a full, farmhouse breakfast you're able to get on your way to your activity pretty easily.

All in all I'd say this is a nice little gem in Homestead if you're not interested in a name brand hotel chain to garner more points.

Room Tip: The upstairs corner room is nice, it has a door as opposed to a slider.

This quite Hotel is one of the last historical sites in the booming Homestead Area. From the moment you walk in you are greeted warmly by the staff and attended to the whole entire time of your stay. The food at the hotel restaurant "The Whistle Stop" was phenomenal. The menu is traditional southern cuisine with a few hidden speciality plates. I personally had the chicken and dumplings plate, let's just say I would have licked the plate if no one was watching lol. Even if your just stopping through it makes for a quick getaway into this town lost country heritage.

Room Tip: I would personally choose a room on the second floor that shares the balcony. Each room is uniquely...
