Coral Castle is located on old Highway 1 just northeast of Homestead, FL. We happened upon it on our drive from Miami Beach to the Florida Keys...and what a treasure!
Although, not coral, as we expected, but limestone, the "castle" is truely an architectual wonder built by one man pining for his lost love. Using simple tools and a brilliant mind, Ed single handedly compiled this quirky mlange of towers, tables & chairs, sundial, well, bathtub and countless other everyday useful and extravagant items, all enclosed in a small fortress. Entrance fee is $15, but there are discount coupons in all the guide books.
Words scarcely do it justice, the Coral Castle is something you must see to believe. Although, hurricane Andrew did massive destruction to the flora, as portrayed by the historical pictures in the gift shop, this place is still beautiful and has quite a romantic story.
