“Beautiful Big Cypress”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

This is a big beautiful wild place. I was able to see Manatees, Alligators, and many different types of birds. I enjoyed my short boardwalk at a place called Kirby Storter where I got to see a chickee (primitive building that had palm thatched roof ) up close and enjoyed its shade! I picked up a map and watched a great movie about Big Cypress at the Welcome Center near the intersection of 41 & 29. Great way to see the natural side of Florida!

“Great Canoe trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

Had the opportunity to take a canoe trip through the park service at Big Cypress. I believe it was the Half Creek paddling trail, and it was a great experience being on the water in the everglades for 4.5 hours. We saw several birds, a few alligators, paddled through some mangroves and just overall beautiful scenery. The guides were very friendly, informative and you could tell they are passionate about our natural environment, which is wonderful. The Visitor's Center is very nice, has some great displays and a short boardwalk where we were able to see some manatees. Nice, nice day!

“Great scenic drive, Better trees than Everglades”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

Big Cypress is really a part of the same ecosystem as the Everglades just majority Cypress Hammock than sawgrass prairie. Leaving the Everglades we chose to go west returning I-75 and see new things. I was very glad I did. The hammocks in Big Cypress were much bigger with great moss covered trees. The fauna is much the same herons, egrets and ibis and gators by the hundreds. We quite counting the canal along 41. If you want to get a different experience than sawgrass slough and prairie, visit Big Cypress to experience large hardwood moss covered hammocks that are better described as forest. It has a much similar Louisiana swamp feel than the Everglades.

“great adventure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

We headed down to big cypress today from Naples to spot some gators we were not disappointed - we stopped counting once we got to 100!

We first stopped at the welcome centre. They had a peaceful boardwalk and picnic spots at the waters edge. We saw gators and manatee. We turned into the loop road at Monroe station. Its not a bad trail at all as regards road surface - we managed 25mph but there were plenty of stopping points to spot gators and turtles. The highlight though was in the last 5 miles - we stopped at two beautiful pools full of gators but also home to diverse water birds - it was so peaceful and beautiful we would have been happy to have set up chairs and sat all afternoon. When we came out of the loop road and headed back west on 41 we stopped at another ranger station with a board walk and although we saw loads of gators it did not have the tranquility of the boardwalk and visitor centre at ochopee. We had planned to visit Kirby starter boardwalk also but we just ran out of time and I don't think we could have seen anything better than we already had. Would definitely recommend the big cypress area and the loop road even if you just have time to do the first few miles on the east side.

“Stop at H P Williams Park - on route from Everglades City to Miami”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

We spent the morning at Everglades City doing an Airboat ride but did not see a lot of natural wildlife. Our airboat guide suggested the HP Williams roadside picnic area and it was well worth a stop. We were there only a few minutes and came across snakes, fish, turtles, birds, and lots of alligators. There was also a guide there answering questions and pointing us towards all the wildlife to see and answer all of our questions. If you do cross the highway to see wildlife on the other side of the bridge, watch for traffic as they don't generally slow down.
