“Beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

It was a great hike! Although part of the South rim was closed due to falcon breeding, we really enjoyed the tour and the beautiful sceanary.
We decided to climb via Laguna Meadow and to stay overnight at Boot Canyon. This was a good choice, as we could leave our lagguage at BC and continue then to the South Rim.
This option gave us also enough time to really enjoy the views without the need to rush although the hike is defenetly do-able within one day.
Decended the next day via Pinnacles Trail which I found even more beautiful then the way via Laguan Meadow.

Hike is not difficult and the path is easy to follow. Unfortunately, we did not see any wildlife except for a deer (although we were told that there is a big chance to see bears at Boot Canyon)

“Best Hike in Texas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013 via mobile

If you are visiting Big Bend National Park, this is a must do. It is an all day hike that will require some effort on your part but the rewards are well worth it. I have visited Big Bend National Park every year for the last 20 years. During this time, while hiking this trail, I have seen Black Bear, Mountain Lion, Fox, Deer, and a pesky Bluejay that begs for food.

Pack a lunch and enjoy it while overlooking the desert from the Southern Rim. Take a moment to stop along the trail and listen to the sound of nothing. If time and stamina permits, leave your pack at the intersection of the trail to Emory Peak and make a quick jolt to the highest point in the park.

If you have only one day in Big Bend National Park, this is how you should spend it. Spend your evening soaking your tired legs at the Hot Springs, near Rio Grande Village. Wear sturdy boots, pack plenty of water, and leave only footprints. It is by far the best hike in Texas.

“Great day hike with great views across the desert”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

I've done this hike a couple times...solo you can do the hike in a little over 5 hours but you should allow about 8 including longer breaks for snacks and lunch. I took the valley approach as the walk down through the creek bed on the 2nd half of the hike is beautiful (and I think a more pleasant way back to Chisos).

“Amazing views, well worth the effort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

Doable in 5 hours with a full head of steam, it would certainly be more relaxing to do in 6-7.
There are absolutely breathtaking views as well as enough variety to feel it was worth the effort.

The weather in late December was perfect with it being warm enough to do the majority of the hike in 1 long sleeved layer. That said, it was snowing on the same day a year ago apparently!

“The Best of Big Bend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2012

We made the south rim loop in November and were truly awestruck. As much as we love Big Bend NP, this was even better than we had expected. The hike up Laguna Meadows is long but steady. It was easy in a half day. We spent the night at SW3 to fully enjoy the sights. That allowed us time to explore and drink in the views from the rim. Our campsite had a view that was fabulous as well. Our hike out the next morning was an easy two and half hours.
Truly everything I had heard!
