“Nice rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2014

The room was comfortable, and the furniture was somewhat distinct from the usual "motel standard." True, no TV (though you could rent one) or cell service, but that was actually a plus.
The only drawback was that we were on the ground floor of a two-story accommodation; the upstairs guest was up at 6:00 every morning, tromping back and forth for a good hour. Since it didn't get light until 8:00, that was an unwelcome distraction.
However, the scenery in the Chisos Basin is spectacular, and there are numerous hiking trails of varying lengths to accommodate almost any desired level of activity. Since it was early April there were numerous wildflowers in bloom, which added to our enjoyment of the vist.

I debated whether or not to rate this a 3 or a 4. The setting is magnificent. The lodging just adequate. Luckily, it was very clean--yes, we could smell the bleach. I don't know if it had cell phone service--maybe for certain carriers. The wifi was spotty, but kind of worked. Even though we lucked out and had a main floor room, there were still a lot of stairs between it and the parking lot. If stairs are an issue, be careful what room you get.

At the end of the day, the National Park Service should probably demolish the lodge and build something as beautiful and tasteful as the rest of the park--yes, and charge more. At least you would feel you were getting an outstanding experience for the money.

I did appreciate the convenience of the lodging, but wouldn't want to stay for more than a night.

There are not a lot of accomodation options in this part of Texas - fortunately the Chisos Mountain Lodge fills this void quite well. It is certainly not the best property that I have ever stayed at, but it is clean and safe. The restaurant has good food and service. There are no phones or TV's in the room -- and that is GREAT because the immediate surroundings are spectular! A fantastic sunset view; wildlife just outside your door and more stars in the night sky than you can imagine. The only negative -- the WIFI service was squirrelly and spotty. I hope I get to stay here again some time!

Room Tip: Ours was close to the restaurant and store - which made for a short, convenient walks.

This is the only hotel in the park. The rooms are ok, the restaurant is ok, the location is unique. Walk around, see the sunset, and accept that the room is just a place to sleep. It is one of the few hotels that I have been in recently without a TV, but as I said, that is not what we were there for.

Location, location, location! Stayed 3 nights. There's nothing better or more central if you aren't camping or RV'ing through Big Bend NP. The rooms are not fancy, but they are clean and functional (except for the painfully low shower head... remember to duck!) Microwave, fridge and coffeemaker in room. Great views and bird/wildlife viewing! Friendly and fast restaurant (a full service restaurant up there just astounds me!), although food was only okay IMO. Book ahead, way ahead.

This is the first time I write a realy negativ review!!!
The story:
I have done a reservation for 2 nights in a room with 2 beds.
the rooms were confirmed within 30 minutes.
After 2 days the changed it to a room with 1 bed.
I wrote a measaged, that I want to have 2 beds not 1.
no answer.
after 2 days I wrote an other measage.
nothing.
than I canceled the reservation.
two days later my bank account was charged for 2 nights.
Again I wrote a measage.
What do you think what happens?
just nothing.
sorry, they can do what they want.
if the money is not back on my account in 2 days, I will call the credit card company to recall the money.

This a service that nobody needs.

For 3 nights we were fortunate to have a second floor room in Building A. There are 6 rooms on this floor and they have far and away the best view of the window. If you can snag one of these rooms, do so. To wake up every morning and see the mountains/window while still lying in bed was wonderful.

The room itself was mid to budget range motel type room with a fairly dated look. But at least when we were there it was quite, the bed was comfortable enough and the staff very nice.

Room Tip: Ask for 2nd floor with a window view - building A is the best
