“McLean Community Center got it right!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

The McLean Community Center got it right; the Alden Theatre is housed inside of the Center. How often can one see a free jazz concert, lecture, and Jewelry show, all at one time, and in one building? I came to the Center to tour the 6th Annual Juried Handcrafted Jewelry show but stayed for the 1PM free jazz concert and lecture by nationally renown jazz pianist, John Eaton. Eaton played and sang tunes from jazz legends; he focused much of the lecture on Harold Arlen, the composer of "Stormy Weather". Additional photographs and slideshows of the concert and jewelry show are on my travel blog at jdrolle.blogspot.com.

The Alden Theatre's 2013 Spring season has a diverse line up of dance, recitals, orchestras and concert pianists. The free events include a Young soloists recital; dance and dessert with Christopher K. Morgan; a lecture with Brian Greene; and a concert with Joni Chan. The fee events include a concert with Asphalt Orchestra; Doc Scantlin and his Imperial Palms Orchestra; and Christopher K. Morgan & Artists: MoveMENt. There appears to be something for everyone.

“Excellent community theater”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2011

The Alden theater is a wonderful gem -- one of the highlights of McLean. The shows are professionally produced --and it provides an opportunity for local children who are aspiring actors. The tickets are reasonably priced. We have seen many plays here and have never been disappointed.

“Great for audience, needs work for their treatment of theater groups”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2011

Alden has come a long way from the early days of shabby shows and theater group in-fighting: The autocratic leaders of the theater notwithstanding. For example, all sets have to fit into a ridiculously small space so they can be stuck during the run. Why bother building a set? Theater crew backstage, working for Alden, are hostile and imperial, the inside joke of the community. "What's the most dangerous thing in theater? An Alden volunteer with power." LOL. Hey, it's McLean.... and I know, I live here.
