Being a veteran of Sweetwater Tavern - one of the sister establishments in the Great American Restaurants "chain" - I had relatively high expectations for Coastal Flats on my first visit. Looking at their menu I noticed some similarities, but I was also aware that there was more of an emphasis on seafood at Coastal Flats.
The restaurant, located indoors on the lower level of the Tyson's Corner Mall, was relatively busy for Saturday lunch. Without a reservation, we waiting approximately five minutes to be seated which seemed more than reasonable. Service was friendly and worked well as a team - clearly a point of emphasis at these restaurants. We ordered a lobster roll and grilled jumbo shrimp, and both dishes were delicious. There was room for improvement, but I suspect that this restaurant aims more for consistency (which I have no problem with) rather than taking risks to go for the ultimate flavor (sometimes that does not pan out).
