“Ancient Petryoglyphs & Fossilized Dinosaur Footprints”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2014

If you want to see some very nice quality petroglyphs and dinosaur footprints, head North out of Moab, and then West along UT-279 (Utah 279).

This road more or less parallels the Colorado River, and after several miles you'll pass a historical marker on the river side of the road. Pull over. This is the first of two sets of petroglyphs you'll see. Just a short jaunt down the road, you'll see the next marker, and the next pull out.

There is little through traffic, and it's pretty safe for the kids.

Push further down the road, and you'll find a turnout on the right. Park in the lot by the 'markers' and you can see the dinosaur fossilized footprints up the hill. My son and I hiked up to get a better look.

“Beautiful area, beautiful art.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2014

Loved the ride there through good roads in a wild looking area. Every turn was more amazing than the previous one. We loved the art, natural and man-made. Our only regret was not enouh time in this gorgeous place.

“Our scenic ride on route 279, Moab, Utah”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2014

We really enjoyed the ride along route 279.Very little traffic, there are turn outs to view the scenery and pit stops here and there. Some of the hikes to special areas are too much for older folks, however some times able to do just part of the walk. There are several roads one can drive down to view scenery, but maybe they are better for jeeps or 4 wheelers. We took a lot of pictures and will be able to share with our family and friends at home. It is all breath taking for us from the east to view. There is no charge for the road and there was an area we could have our lunch at a picnic table, that was probably a camping site, but it was empty. Drive all the way to the Potash Mine.

“Another fantastic Moab drive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

We went up Potash Rd. twice-- once in the evening to go to Corona Arch-- missed the pictographs so we went back and hiked back up to Corona for sunrise and found the great etchings on Wall Street. It was fun watching everybody climb in the evening and a quick trip to the campground near the arch trailhead was nice... until we were carried away by the mosquitos! Yikes!

“Another Awe Inspiring Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014

Do take this drive! The rock sculptures are awesome. We took many pictures from different angles to catch the varying shadows and colors. The Earth we call home has treasures within places like this that no movie can ever capture!
