First the good... We booked the two-bedroom suite, which, if you're traveling with 2 surly teenagers (are there any other kind?), provides plenty of space for everybody to call their own. The place was squeaky clean. Basic furnishings, but hey, it was fine. The balcony, with its wicker furniture, was yet another place to escape to. TVs in the living room and in both bedrooms. Hotel staff was accommodating and nice as could be. Free wifi internet. Heated pool (also very clean). Close enough to the main drag to walk just about everything you'd need to (restaurants, shops, adventure tour operators). And it was a bargain with the AARP discount (it does pay to be 50! I can use the savings for botox :o)

Now the weird... There were NO LAMPS anywhere! Not on any end table or bedside table, which made reading in bed problematic. Only hideous overhead garish lighting. Three TVs in that suite and they can't spring for a stinkin' lamp? Sheesh. We made do with book lights (bring 'em!) and the glow of the TV in the evening. I wondered if this was an anomaly, but when I asked the desk clerk if other rooms had them, he winced embarrassedly and said, "No, they don't. And you're not the first person to remark on this."

The other weird thing was that the second bedroom had NO WINDOWs and NO VENTILATION. Our son had to keep his door open to get any AC from the living room.

Lastly, it's kinda noisy--paper thin floors. The people walking above us sounded like tap-dancing elephants, although I'm sure they weren't doing anything out of the ordinary. Ear plugs are kind of necessary if you're a light sleeper.

Considering the caliber of the accommodations I spied in Moab, nothing looked all that great frankly. Well, The Sorrell Ranch, which we floated by on a rafting trip, looked pretty swell, but then at $400 a night, it ought to be.

I give this place a 4 star rating, not because it's so great, but because the good outweighs the bad. Good price, spacious, CLEAN, well located--yeah, I'd stay here again.

For an extended stay motel the rooms are clean, but on the small side. There is no continental breakfast and the hot tub was in need of repair. The front desk is mainly staffed by young people who are polite and provide local info, but the general manager is not always available and these young people are limited as to their ability to make administrative decisions regarding a guest's problem or question.

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights. Our family of four (2 adults, 2 kids) opted for the 2 bedroom suite. A little more money for a lot more space. We were traveling with friends that were staying in regular rooms. The regular rooms were small as far as "hotels" go, but we were there to ride the jeep trails, not hang out in our rooms. Michael at the front desk was always helpful. I was very hesitant after reading such bad reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised! It has a great location, we walked to everything we needed in town. The pool was great. They even let us watch our jeep trail videos from the day on the tv in the lobby! I wouldn't say this is a luxury hotel by any means, but I would stay here again. The only downfall were the beds... they were hard in my opinion. Housekeeping did a great job, our rooms were cleaned very promptly every morning.

Moab was busy the weekend we stayed so we ended up staying at the Red Canyon Inn. In truth better to stay in a tent !! Tourist Coaches leaving at all hours of the night and morning with all the related noise!! No restaurant facilities and very small rooms.
Nevre again and better to stay at other near by hotels.

Moab is a brillant town.

“misleading name, misleading room descriptions. MEAN manager!!”

River Canyon Lodge Inn and Suites

there is nothing about this hotel that merits the name river canyon lodge. it is like a travelodge or super 8 really. they call the rooms "suites" or junior suites, but again misleading to the public. they are really traditional rooms with two double beds, with a small microwave and mini bar size fridge.

i booked a room by phone and very specifically asked them if they had "walk in rates" which are lower rates for walk in guests with no reservations. they told me no...but i was misled again.

i was quoted a rate of $125 per night, but when i checked in, a family arrived without reservations, and were given the same type room, a junior suite, for $59.00 right within my earshot.

the next day, when i asked the inflexible , unsmiling, manager, a lady with an irish accent and red hair,, if i could have the same rate, she denied the request. i thought this was unfiar and unprofessional.

This hotel is of good v alue, but remember, if you arrive without a reservation, and just show up, you will get a much better rate.

they charge a hefty premium if you book your reservations by phone in advance.

positive attributes: The parking lot is convenient, the location is good, complimentary refreshments in the lobby with nice seating area is quite pleasant. quiet location. new construction.

negative attributes: poorly trained staff (they were not sent to normal hotel management school), and a mean, ungracious manager. name and room types are misleading. there is nothing suite-ish about the rooms.
