we decided to stay here as the website looked like the ranch offered a lot of activities & experiences we were interested in. Upon arrival at the ranch, we realized that nothing could actually be done at the ranch, there was no bikes there/nothing except the horses which you could do a boring trail ride on for $75.

This was disappointing given it was 30 mins from town & now we had to head back into town to organize ourselves. The concierge people were not that helpful nor knowledgeable. i was quite surprised when we asked them about mountain bike riding in the region & were advised that they had no idea that we would be better off going to town for information. They suggested Moab Adventures, which it turned out was the most expensive along the street - almost triple the cost of some smaller providers. We also asked about touring the national parks - the person at the desk had neever been to any of them!!! I was then beginning to question where we had arrived at. There were no brochures or maps available which you would think would be part of the service provided.

The mountain view room we stayed in was great - had a fantastic view of the mountains. The amenities within the room left a LOT to be desired. Small things like their binder of information missing pages / still having 2007 infromation within it / the shampoo & conditioner of terrible quality (like you'd get in a cheap motel) / no toaster, bottle opener, sharp knife etc. Having a kitchenette is great, but makes it difficult to actually eat anything if you dont have the right or any tools.

The bed was great, the linens were old & needed replacing. - my feet could feel the pilling onf the cotton....They need to replace the pillows also which seemed old as my head was touching the mattress.

These things may seem small - but i think when you pay the amount you do to stay here, you do expect a certain amount of luxury & service. Neither I felt like we received. Now that im looking at the information on the Red Cliffs, i think we shoudl have stayed there for half the price - the scenery is certainly as spectacular & cant imagine the rooms much different to Sorrel river.

The restaurant was fine - expensive - but mostly empty, so I guess they need to make their money somehow.

My husband and I just returned from a Utah vacation. While there, we stayed 2 nights at this resort. We tried the restaurant the first evening. I expected it to be pricey - I believe the entrees started at about $25 on up. (I saw on billboards that they were advertising entrees starting at $18 -- not sure what that was, unless they meant the French Onion Soup.) Anyways, I had the special of the night which was the trout stuffed with crabmeat (sounded delicious to me) -- it was just OK, for the price, I've definately had better. My husband chose the Ribeye. He said his first bite was really good, he could taste the seasonings, but after that, the rest of the steak was tasteless. So, for the money we spent, I was not at all thrilled with the meal. We had reservations for the 2nd evening which we cancelled.

The room was cute, cozey, and clean. The view was very nice. But I can definately say that we will stay at another place when we visit that area again. There was another ranch up the street that looked very similar that was not so expensive, so we will try that resort on our next visit.

“An amazing site”

Sorrel River Ranch Resort

Located in the middle of a stony desert, Sorrel River Ranch is a radiant green oasis. The hotel consists of timber cabins in a quiet, narrow park bordering the Colorado River. Each house is divided into 4 bedrooms apartments either overlooking the river or the dominating mountains. Each apartment has a kitchenette: micro-oven, fridge, and sink which is very practical if guests prefer not to eat out every night.
The service is very friendly, most of the staff is oriental. The restaurant is excellent, the dining room spacious and very pleasant. Guests may also eat outdoors.
The closest town is Moab which is about 30 minutes away by car. There are many activities available such as rafting, riding, cross country biking but the most impressive are exploration of the parks: Arches National Park and the Dead Horse State Park which are each about 30 minutes away.
I stayed here end of August; most of the American children had already gone back to school and there were only European families left, especially French ones who seemed to really appreciate the region. We were right in the middle of the Far West and the landscape of the film ‘Thelma and Louise’. We felt very far from civilization and the return to Salt Lake City which is a 5 hour drive was a real shock.

I read reviews about the service and experience at Sorrel River. One review mentioned Ritz Carlton caliper service. I did not experience this. My families trip was not horrible by any means but we were not blown away by the facilities, staff, or restraunt. We found the staff distant and cold and the facilities a bit worn. My kids did enjoy the horses and deer on the property. It is apx 30 minutes from the town of Moab also leaving you with little options for meals. We also booked Thanksgiving dinner with our reservation. I had no idea what the cost would be but assumed it would not be outrageous. It was $75 per adult and $45 or $50 for children over 4. My bill was nearly $300 and I bet my children ate $3 worth of dinner. If we had to do it all over again, we would have stayed at the Desert Pearl in Springdale longer and skipped Sorrel River. There is another options right up the road called Red Cliffs that looked very similar at about half the cost. I travel extensively and have stayed at some incredible resorts. This one did not live up to the $300/ per night tab.

I just got off of the phone with Mr. Barnes and we had a very nice conversation about the issues he had with his stay at our Resort. Unfortunately we are unable to meet everyone’s expectations but in keeping with our 100% satisfaction guarantee we are sending Mr. Barns a full refund for his Thanksgiving dinner and his room for the night. We will continue to follow our long standing policy that: “We will fully refund your money if you are not happy with our facility or services for any reason.” It is rare that this occurs but I am committed to stand behind this policy and welcome the opportunity to do this for any of our guests.
