“Unpleasant Experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2012

Caterpillars falling from trees above. Highway noise. Campers talking and laughing until 2:40 a.m., in spite of calls to please respect quiet hours. There seemed to be no one in charge. We filled out the paperwork, left the $$ in the pipe, and never saw an owner/manager. We didn't find a way to get help in silencing the bicyclists who kept most of the rest of us up. One couple slept in their car to get away from the noise. It's a lovely site, but not nearly as quiet from highway noise as other reviews suggest, and we do not plan to stay there again.

Yes, one will encounter creep crawlies when camping outdoors and the caterpillars are out in full force this April. For those planning on camping in April, I would suggest bringing some kind of shade structure to provide some protection from the caterpillars. Yes, one will encounter neighbors and noise when camping in a campground in a city. I would suggest bringing earplugs if you are a light sleeper. Though it may seem no one is in charge, Sue459 made no attempt to contact me. There is a place to leave notes (the pipe safe where she paid – pen and paper provided), and I take calls and check emails 14 hours a day. When contacted, I will quickly respond to concerns and problems.

Peacefull campground located just 2 blocks from city amenities (laundromat, stores, diners, brew pub). The site is very shady thanks to a large grove of cottonwoods (allergy sufferers beware). We visited in early May, unusually cool in 2011, but still had plenty of caterpillars around the site; nothing a gentle brush can't take care of.

Advantages:
* Hot showers
* Shared BBQs (gas provided by hosts)
* Bike racks next to facilities building
* No RVs (nice to not have to wake up to someone's generator noise)
* Tent sites large enough not to feel like you are encroaching on neighbour.
* Pocket-friendly budget allowed us to splurge a little on dining and save foodstuff for later camping
* streams runs next to campground

Would definitely return and recommend to friends.

The little gem is a tent only campground in Moab proper. It's just a couple of blocks from the main drag, but noise was not a problem. Outdoor folk dominate this camp, but being the only motorcycle camper didn't bother anyone. Friendly hosts, clean hot showers and plenty of shade from the giant cottonwoods along the creek make this urban oassis an enigma. It has an almost neo-hippie commune feel. Guitar players, no shower curtains and the flower garden add to this atmospere. I'll be back!

Arches was booked for the weekend so we booked this campground which is right in the hearto downtown Moab. It was pretty convenient since it was close to everything in town and great amenities - they had hot showers, hot water and utility sinks for washing the dishes (a luxury in the camping world), ice for sale, drinking water, electrical outlets. It was a perfect base for anyone playing around moab, especially if you need that shower at the end of the fun day :)

I traveled to Moab with a group of friends to do some hardcore mountain biking and we needed a cheap place to stay in town. We were referred to Up the Creek and couldn't have been more satisfied with the outcome. It's the ideal urban camping experience we had hoped for and everyone else staying there is doing some sort of outdoor activity so we were among friends. Centrally located right in town and walking distance to plenty of bars and restaurants. There are nice community facilities (hot showers!) yet has the feel of camping in the woods away from civilization. They have shared bbqs for cooking meals that are welcome to campers that we used every night. And best of all it is inexpensive and the staff is very accommodating. Highly recommended for the outdoor type. Only downside is you cannot have a fire but being right in town and surrounded in trees that probably makes sense. Still we were bummed. Overall: highly recommended.

Room Tip: This is tent camping only. If the weather sucks bring a weather guard and you'll be fine.
