We almost hesitate to share this with travelers as the beauty was in this campground's lack of tourism! On the way to take a look at the DeadHorse Campground in Canyonland (impossible to book and actually, pretty barren and hot, though great view)....we found a small campground that had just a small dirt road leading in. I believe it was called Cow Girl Campground. If you follow the bend around the camp (all rim sites) there is a camp tucked away in the back that sits by itself and is right on the rim. It's very basic....no water and a bathroom with no door, but Ahhh,,,, the peace, the quiet, the breeze, the beauty. If you are willing to rough it .....it is worth it. The next day we rented a jeep and went up from the bottom of the canyon to the top. Yes, it was scary (one land dirt road winding up cliff) but so amazing. We like getting away from crowds and off the beaten track and these adventures did both. We were there in early June, but April and May would be even better.
