“Great place in Harpers Ferry”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

We spent a lovely three nights at the Stonehouse. It's a beautifully restored house ideally situated in the lower town. Chris is an excellent host--he's a great cook, gave us some good recommendations for the area, and made sure we were nice and warm during our visit. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: The Blue Room faces the river, and the Gray Room faces High Street.

We spent a night at Stonehouse during a bike trip from Pittsburgh to DC. This B&B is in a stunning old home right in historic Harpers Ferry. The innkeeper is an interesting young guy with an adorable dog. The room was very modern farmhouse chic, big clawfoot tub in the shared bathroom. Breakfast was hearty and healthy--fresh berries, greek yogurt, pancakes. Great coffee, laid back atmosphere.

My husband and I came to Stonehouse for one night (wish it was more!) as a stopover on our roadtrip honeymoon. It was by far our favorite place we stayed our entire 10 day trip. Not only is it a gorgeous place in and of itself, it's centrally located in beautiful Harpers Ferry.

We booked our room for the Top Floor and we just loved it. So cozy...and the views! Amazing! We slept soo well on that comfy bed. Also loved writing some notes about our trip in that big comfy leather armchair! Only reason I would recommend staying in the Blue or Gray Rooms over the Top Floor (which are both also beautiful) is you'd save yourself an extra flight of stairs. Really, any room is beautiful. The Innkeeper, Chris, was telling us over breakfast all the work he's put into the building, and wow, it really shows! And whoa. Speaking of breakfast...Ugh, I want some more of those homemade pancakes right now! Chris made from scratch some amazing pancakes with homemade fruit syrup and a big side of bacon. Very impressive - we felt at home immediately. Also loved Cane, his super sweet dog!

Really can't say enough good things about this place. Can't wait to go back someday!

Room Tip: Top Floor has amazing views and its own bathroom - but if you want to save yourself a flight of stai...

My husband and I enjoyed a very relaxing weekend at the Stonehouse Bed and Breakfast. Chris was a wonderful, easy going host as was his sweet, unobtrusive dog, Cane. The Stonehouse has been beautifully restored, keeping the feel of the original 200 year old stone structure but with complete comfort. Breakfast in the kitchen while Chris cooked was relaxing and felt like home without the work. The breakfast was tasty and beautifully served. The Stonehouse is in a perfect area, parking our car behind the B&B we never had to drive again until we were ready to leave the area.

Room Tip: The top floor was great. Decorated in calming dark colors with a private bathroom was perfect for my...

We had a great stay at the Stonehouse. The location is perfect for access to the historical parts of the town. Chris was very nice and helped us find which trails to hike. He's an amazing cook. The beds were the most comfortable we've ever had at a bed and breakfast.

The Stonehouse B&B is the place to stay if you value history but do not want to compromise on comfort.

Intimate and friendly, the Inn is in the middle of what may be our country’s best collection of restored 19th century homes – Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia. Step-out of the front door of the Inn for an early morning walk, run or bike ride, and you are in the middle of a National Historic Park, yards away from the Appalachian Trail, and a short walk from the C&O Canal. Does this sound like too much work to you? Me too. So instead, sleep-in a little (the bed was incredible), feast on a generous and tasty breakfast, and kick-back with coffee in front of an impressive stone fireplace (accompanied by a great Inn dog if he senses you want company – how do you train a dog to know that?). Do you have something to say? Great! Chris, the owner and proprietor, is friendly and interesting – and knows how and when to engage guests, and when to let you have your down time. This is a very cool place, with an unbeatable location, and great Innkeep. Park your car on Friday, and don’t move it until Sunday - or come on bikes via the Canal.

If you want to know what it feels like to walk the streets of the 19th century, take a stroll after 8 PM (most visitors have gone home). If you prefer the 21st century, take a short walk to one of the downtown restaurants, have a beer or dessert, and return to your comfy lodging – choose your degree of historical immersion, but don’t miss the Stonehouse B&B!
