“Felt Sorry for the Re-enacters.....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

It was a sweltering July day, when my friend and I decided to visit Harper's Ferry. I felt awful for the re-enacters that were in full WOOL costumes. The town is wonderfully preserved with a variety of museums in the old buildings. The Lower Town is the true historic area and the Upper Town is where the shops and restaurants are. It was a great place to spend a morning wandering around as things didn't start to get busy until 11ish. Also above the town, sits the ruins of an old church, the Harper's Ferry cemetery and Jefferson Rock which are well worth the hike up to see. Spend a few hours or spend all day, it is a good time.

“Little town with a lot of charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

It is so lovely to watch the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers meet. The scenery is beautiful any time of the year. Shopping and dining is limited but good.

“Great views, Great history, Great hiking!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

Went here on New Years Eve afternoon and walked around town, popping into several of the free museums. So much history here, and amazing views in this historic town at the intersection of three rivers. On New Years Day, we hiked Bolivar Heights Battlefield for 3.5 miles, which was a decent hike, mostly through fields, although was a good deal of uphill hiking, b/c Harpers Ferry is a very hilly place. We used the map we got in the visitors center, and the trails were very clearly marked with historical information about the battle along the way.

“Beautiful Park and Interesting Museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

The old town has been converted to a walking museum. There are many interesting videos and informational displays that talk about the history of slavery in the US and how deep divisions led to the Civil War.

Harpers Ferry and the surrounding countryside are beautiful all seasons of the year.

“What a fun national park...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

This was a very fun national park. We parked at the visitor center at the top of the hill. During our visit, we hiked at Bolivar Heights, the upper visitor center and then rode the bus to the lower town. It has been restored to its historical origins and we spent 2 hours exploring. I enjoyed the Civil War museums and the John Brown exhibits. The US Armory was also very cool. There is not much to eat in the area, so you may want to bring your own, but you will thoroughly enjoy the visit.
