“needs adult supervision”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

his place needs some adult supervision:

1. car horn in parking lot went off every hour waking virtually every guest up including me repeatedly. When questioned in the AM, the staff said "oh, my police officer friend wasn't on duty so i didn't call the police". Suggestions: take license plate numbers to match a car to the guest; call cops; if all else fails, tow it away.

2. very loud, poorly maintained hot water heater. sounded like a popcorn maker - ran the whole night. several room at least affected. "oh so sorry"

3. place was full on a Saturday night. "free breakfast" was swamped. could nto even get coffee. suggestions: when full, you can't just have one small coffee carafe; have additional staff when full. Don't stay here if more than 50% full. They cant handle it.
(no coffee happened twice in the same AM - i did not even try to eat something)

4. so, not being able to get the free coffee, i went back to me room because i remembered a small coffee maker. Opened it up....yuck...filthy.

No credit, no discount. Avoid this place at all costs.

Dear Guest,
We have addressed your feedback with the following actions:
1, Car horn: Our front desk agent and manager on duty identified the room with the beeping horn. Police and tow truck weren't called because it wasn't necessary; Guest was already willing to get new car parts if needed. We've reiterated standard procedures to record plate info for quick identification.
2. Hot water heater: Maintenance flushed out the hot water heater.
3 Coffee: We've reviewed output and checked feasibility/electrical requirements to double capacity with an upgraded brewer. Our apologies for the coffee delay; our free hot breakfast is very popular, and our coffee is delicious as witnessed by the 7 pots of coffee consumed in one hour!
We take pride in our hotel and do our best to keep problems from recurring. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for sharing your recent experience so that we can improve.

We didn't have high expectations based on reading reviews of this hotel. It was about what we expected: kind of run down. The manager and desk clerk were helpful. Our room was adequate but in several areas the woodwork and tub caulking needed repairs. I was nervous but no bed bugs!

The lock on the outside door at the end of our hall was broken, meaning anyone could enter the hotel at night. The manager said parts were on order.

There aren't restaurants close by and since we were traveling by bike we ordered a pizza.

I spent two nights here as a base for exploring the Antietam Battlefield and historic Harpers Ferry, and this budget property was just the ticket. Options are limited in Harpers Ferry (a good thing, really, compared to development run amok), so the choice is between this property or one of the local B&B's. I opted for the reasonable pricing and the ease of a late arrival at this hotel, which is located on Hwy 340, just outside of town center.

There is nothing fancy here, but there is everything you could need: comfortable bed, a window that opens, ample floor space, table & side chairs, small frig, microwave, coffee maker, iron & ironing board, flat panel TV, and decent lighting. The bathroom was small but had plenty of counter space, electrical outlets, nightlight, and a wall mount hair dryer -- and the towels were plentiful and of good quality. There is a centrally-located ice machine and a pump pot of coffee which seemed to be available 24/7. The staff was friendly and helpful, and there is plenty of parking.

The included breakfast was fairly typical for this kind of hotel -- sausage patties, ready-made scrambled egg patties, cereals, yogurt, coffee, do-it-yourself waffles - you know the deal. Nothing gourmet, but there's enough there to get you going in the morning, and for the price point of this hotel, I had no complaints.

If you're a good walker, you can reach the historic district on foot. I found it to be a pleasant walk, and far easier than dealing with the visitor center parking and shuttle bus, particularly given that the shuttle service ends by 5pm.

Harpers Ferry is a beautiful little town that oozes with historic charm. Be sure to seek out the amazing vantage points which offer a bird's eye view over the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers. There is a pedestrian bridge over the Potomac here; if you cross it you can get a view of the historic C & O Canal and one of the locks, as well as the stunning confluence of these famous waterways.

I enjoyed my visit to this historically rich community, and was quite pleased with this hotel. Harpers Ferry is less than an hour's drive from Dulles, making it an easy weekend adventure for anyone who has an interest in American history, and particularly the Civil War era.

Room Tip: "Mountain View" does look at the mountain, but it also looks at Highway 340. Otherwise, yo...

We stayed here two nights while slackpacking the Appalachian Trail to Harpers Ferry. Very comfortable, well appointed with fridge and microwave. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful in advising us with tips for our hike and nearby restaurants. Only complaint was the heat seemed to only be full blast or off, no in between.

We've visited Harpers Ferry several times and while there are further B&Bs opening up in the area, the stock of regular motels hasn't increased. As a result, in Harpers Ferry, you pay rather more for very simple motel rooms than you do in most places. That having been said, we had no other complaints about the Econo Lodge, which has been nicely upgraded since our last stay when it was a Comfort Inn. For most people, this is a bit too far out to walk into town, so a car or bike is necessary. Decent breakfast, good desk staff. As in my previous review of then Comfort Inn, if you want quiet, choose a room facing the parking lot rather than the busy, uphill highway.

We stayed here for a couple of nights and we have been very impressed by this small hotel. The service was great and the room was pretty comfortable for the 2 of us and our 5 year old daughter. The room was very clean, well sized bathroom with ceramic tile floors and granite countertops not what we were expecting for sure. The hotel offers daily breakfast and it was pretty decent. We chose to eat have breakfast in our room the second night just because we wanted to use the nice table there looking at the mountains.
The hotel is very close to the Lower Town but not all the roads are pedestrian friendly. Once you get from the hotel to Washington Street (abt an 8- 10 minute walk) then you are fine and it will be another 20 minutes to get there (with a kid).
Enjoy!

Room Tip: rooms with a mountain view but noisy or back rooms for a quieter stay but not so nice overlook.

Recently stayed 2 nights at this hotel and to be honest, I was very pleasantly surprised! Thrilled quite frankly, at the value I received.
I'm NOT saying this hotel compares to the finest hotels in New York but for what it is, and for the value you get, I have no complaints. The room was clean. The bed was comfortable. The staff was courteous and helpful. There was a fridge and microwave in my room. For a budget hotel, I don't really ask for much more than that. I would definitely stay here again if in the area. I was very satisfied
