“Very nice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013 via mobile

The B & B is very nice; unfortunately, I became ill, & I was hospitalized. So, we had to check out early. All that added up to a very expensive visit.
The innkeeper is very informative, businesslike and helpful. Breakfast was very good. Room was Stonewall Jackson room and it is spacious & comfortable. A little area outside the room is there for relaxing and a glass of wine or cup of coffee.

This is really the nicest B&B we have ever stayed in. The antebellum house, the food, the setting, the graciousness and helpfulness of the hostess. Our room was in the old summer kitchen of the house. It was quiet and perfectly appointed. We arrived exhausted and felt right at home. Our hostess knew the area well and was extremely helpful with suggestions. She also wanted to know what we thought of the places we went. The gardens around the house were lovely and there were nice places to sit outside. Our main goal of our stay there was to bike ride in the Antietam battlefield, enjoy the local history and do some hiking. This is a spectacular place to ride. This inn is the perfect jumping off place. We would stay again for sure.

Joanne and Paul are terrific hosts. Joanne is a fountain of knowledge with respect to this historic house, the town of Sharpsburg, and the Battle of Antietam. History is the reason to go to Sharpsburg and our stay with these folks made it very special.

The house/inn is exceptional as well - beautifully furnished and clean as a whistle! We will be back. Thanks for a great stay

Travellers from the UK should be aware that in the US an Inn is not a drinking establishment, it is a Bed & Breakfast. The Jacob Rohrbach Inn is a lovely old building (if it was in the UK it would be listed), run by a fantastic couple; Joanne and Paul. The room in which we stayed (The Clara Barton suite) is decorated in 1860's style with a very comfortable four poster bed and period furniture. The proprietors are experts on local history, geography and places to visit. The Inn has a wealth of Civil War literature, DVD's and pictures and is the scene of a fascinating singular event in that war. Whilst there we visited the Civil War sites at Gettysburg, Sharpsburg and Harpers Ferry. It is an excellent base for Civil War buffs.
Joanne recommended numerous restaurants, but after days of driving we were happy to walk a short distance up the street to a good bar/restaurant and as a bonus there is an ice cream parlour opposite.
Joanne makes an exquisite breakfast and cooks wonderful home made fare. Breakfast is around a large dining table with other guests which we found very convivial and enjoyable. We felt really "at home" here and would have liked to have stayed longer; so great is the welcome.
Top tip: after your evening meal take time to sit a while on the back porch with a cool drink (complementary from the chiller) and watch the fireflies dancing in the garden...it doesn't get better than this!

Joanne and Paul are delightful, attentive hosts. Breakfast is fresh and generous, served family style in the beautiful dining room. They are able to provide all kinds of helpful tips about restaurants for dinner, area sights and hikes and much more. Our Jackson room is spacious and comfortable. Fresh cookies available in the cookie jar, cold drinks, water and wine in the mini-fridge on the patio. Very pleasant and relaxing.

Room Tip: we like Jackson because it's on the ground floor, and has a separate exterior entrance off the g...

If you love the charm of a historic building in wonderful historic small burgs then this is the place for you. It's a wonderful old building that is still in great shape. The hosts are wonderful, attentive, and great to be around. She arranged for a privatetour guide to take around the battlefield. There are lots of private tour guides that offer this service and I would highly recommend it as they really give you insight of the battle. Back to the inn, all I can say is I really enjoyed staying there, I felt safe and comfortable, the room's are very large with great furniture, the breakfast was great and they have every single cable channel known to human kind. It's the perfect place to stay when touring the battlefields because the building played a part as a field hospital for the battle. Oh and make sure you go to Harpers Ferry WV while you are there, it is truly just like an old European city.

The JRI is a beautiful Inn and the innkeepers, Joanne and Paul, are very friendly and make you feel right at home. We enjoyed conversing with the other guests like LondonUKTom (see below) and his family and Richard who was travelling by motorcycle. Breakfast was awesome! I loved Joannes blueberry muffins! And being the lovely host as she is, she got us some to go when we went on a guided tour. If you are looking for a place to stay in Sharpsburg or the surrounding area, look no further and book a room at the JRI. You won´t regret it! If I ever go back to Antietam, I know where to go! Joanne and Paul, Thank you for a wonderful stay! Greetings from the dutch Yahtzee boys!
