I think I wrote a previous review on Yoshi's a few years ago, but it needs updating. My husband and two college age daughters and I used to love going to Yoshi's. We would get small plates and drinks in the bar area, and then head over to the Jazz club. We have been there twice in the last week. While their Jazz club is still a fabulous venue, the rest of the place has gone to the dogs. TERRIBLE service in the bar area, the wait staff are always overwhelmed and undertrained. We waited 25 minutes for our first round of drinks, and I am sure we only got them because we asked 3 times to please hurry because we were going to the show. In the past, we used to be able to order 4-5-6 small plates, and they would be delivered in a timely fashion. This last week we only were able to order 2 and went to the show hungry.
Last night was the icing on the cake. We opted to go elsewhere for dinner which was a great choice. But when we arrived for our 10;30 show, the jazz club was understaffed, the girl that was supposed to be serving our area was flirting with some male customers. I had to get out of my seat to ask the floor manager where our server was, after waiting an additional 10 minutes for her to finish flirting, I got up to get a drink in the bar, which was closed for a private party. I walked around to the restaurant side, there was a red headed waitress at the register, I asked her for her help to get a drink since the jazz club didn't have adequate service. She said there was nothing she could do for me!!! I asked her specifically "I am a paying customer, trying to order a drink, and you are telling me there is no way you can help me?" She replied "No, I'm sorry there is nothing I can do, you need to go back into the club". I explained there was no one tending to our seating area, and she again said she could do nothing!!!!! I have been in restaurant service myself, even if this girl felt powerless to order a drink for a customer, she should at the very least offer to find someone to address the problem. She did nothing. Poor excuse for wait staff at this place. OH! I almost forgot.......half of the stalls in the women's room were out of order, there was water in puddles all over the floor, there was no paper in most of the remaining stalls, and it was still like this 2 hours later after the show. The wall by the hand I used to love going to Yoshi's, I'm gonna have to really love the artist in order to feel compelled to go here again. Too bad too, because the club itself is spectacular.
