“Luxury Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2014

I was happy with my stay at the Monaco. The decor in the hotel is exceptional and the rooms are also well appointed. They have a wine hour every evening from 5-6 but I missed it on all 3 days that I was there. If I have one complaint, it would be that they never brought a coffee maker up to my room after I requested for one on day 2 of my stay. The location is good but the area seems to be crowded with homeless people. Staff was pleasant and courteous.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms on the 2nd floor since the meeting rooms are located on the same floor.

Dear eguy_1972,
I am glad to hear you enjoyed our newly renovated hallways and rooms. But, I am sorry to hear you missed our hosted manager’s wine reception each evening. It is definitely a nice way to end the day.
I am not sure what happened with your coffee maker request. I know how important it is for me to have coffee first thing in the morning and so I am sorry to hear we did not deliver.
Best,
Jason

Tha Monaco is another tremendous Kimpton hotel in the heart of San Francisco. Located a couple of blocks from Union Square, this place is in the heart of the hotel zone. Yet the monaco stands out among its competition. The lobby sports whimsical yet ornate decor, lending a fun and sophisticated vibe. Murals on the ceiling and walls above the grand staircase frame a unique metal sculpture of a tree. This makes for a wonderful place to enjoy a glass (or if we are being perfectly honest, a couple glasses) of wine at their complementary evening reception.
Embodying the friendly and fun culture that is Kimpton, this property does all the little things right.
We stayed one night after securing a great last minute rate on a busy weekend. Despite our cheap bill, we received exceptional value from the hotel and it's entire staff. And as Kimpton regulars, we were treated lavishly to an upgraded room and truly wonderful welcome amenities.
We will certainly be back at the Monaco in the future.

Dear Max W,
The prices for hotel rooms just keeping going up in San Francisco, so I am happy to hear you were able to find what you considered a good deal. And even better that we were able to exceed your expectations. We like to hear that.
That “unique sculpture of a tree” is called “The Tree of Life.” It tells a great story about our founder, Bill Kimpton. There is a great explanation on the wall by the tree of all the different meanings.
We can’t wait to have you as guests of our hotel in the future.
Best,
Jason Stone

Enjoyed a three night stay in this lovely, luxurious hotel. The room was a bit small, but very comfortable. The lobby is stunning and fresh cold water available all day. Coffee service in morning just outside the lobby was nicely set up and the coffee hot and delicious. Very convenient to Union Square and shopping. Hotel bar and restaurant very European and classy.

Dear loveacorona,
We are so happy when people to get to stay with us for more than one night so they can experience the different aspects of our hotel and restaurant. I hope you were also able to visit our hosted manager’s wine reception each evening. And did you see our gym and spa located on the lower level? Those are just a few more of the things we offer here to help you enjoy your stay. Sounds like you may need to come back for another visit.
Best,
Jason

We were so busy enjoying ourselves in SF that we barely had any time at the hotel! However for the short amount of time we did spend at The Monaco, it was very nice. Our room was quite small, but perfectly comfortable and the decor was cheerful and fun. Staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel had a pleasant ambience. We usually stay in one of the larger hotels on Union Square so it was definitely a nice change to be in a more boutique style hotel.
I thought the hotel was good value and we would happily stay there again.

In San Francisco for business last week and had the pleasure of staying here. Jonathan at the front desk was a complete delight and quickly check me in as well as greeted me by name every day.

I stayed in room 709 on the top floor for 4 nights. I didn't have a great city view but there's was no street noise. The room was very spacious with a roomy bathroom. The decor was modern and little funky. I don't think I've seen a safe that big before in a hotel room. The bed was very comfortable and provided a great sleep every night.

There's was one disappointment - one night I went to the restaurant connected to the hotel and only the cafe part was open, not the full restaurant. I'm not sure why but I did enjoy my meal and service in the cafe.

Will stay here again for sure.

First time we have stayed here but for sure we will be back.
As usual we put our trust in Tripadvisor and we came up trumps with The Monaco. As soon as our taxi dropped us off we knew we had made the right decision. The staff were the most welcoming we have experienced in a major city for a long time.
We booked a deluxe room and we were given 716 on the top floor, not much of a view but incredibly quite. Very convenient for everything ,just a couple of blocks from Union Square.
The concierge on duty for most of our stay was very helpful and suggested a great little restaurant Kim Than which is a 5 minute walk up Geary St.
Some very nice touches like the complimentary wine and cheese hour .
The Grand Cafe on site restaurant is great fun and a wonderful decor .
The hotel is also pet friendly.
This will be our base for any future visits to San Francisco!

Room Tip: We stayed in 716 which was very quite
