“Town House”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

This hotel is in a great location, on Lombard Street, Hop on Hop Off bus stop right out the front, you can walk around the corner and catch other busses anywhere. We had a family room for 4 nights, very reasonable priced, clean room, serviced daily. Staff were more than helpful and daily free breakfast was good. Would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Family room is noisy cause its closest to the street, but with windows closed its ok.

This hotel has a great location in the middle of everything! the lady from the lobby is so nice!, very good continental breakfast everyday,, we had the family room, is big and comfy a little noisy because of the street rush, clean room and towels everyday and great parking lot too... 100% recommended!

Room Tip: no too close to the street!!

Can walk or catch transport everywhere. Rooms are great, a little dated but fine for a short stay.

Parking out front. Basic breakfast (banana + a pastry ) could be improved

The manager was very friendly and helpful.

We stayed at the Town House back in May 2012 for 3 nights.
Our first thought was OMG! mainly because the chap at the 'lobby' was a bit grumpy. Once we were given the room we were very impressed with the size and overall state of the room.
The best thing I found is the hotel location for the price we paid (US$ 267.00 for 3nights) specially if you are at SF as tourist.
The Fisherman's Wharf is at walking distance (15 min), we did it many times and also the "crooked Street" is at walking distance (if you wish to walk if, we didn't do).
You have the "Hop on-Hop off" double decker bus stop across the road, and a few stores where you can few things you might need.
Union street its quite close too and there are plenty options to have breakfast and dinners. I recommend you spend some time there for breakfast...nice cafes!

The cons for me were:
+ The air spray used by the cleaning lady was too smelly... I know this might sound a bit a silly but for me it was definetely a minus...!
+ The noise at night...as other people has appointed it gets better if you close the windows but you can still hear it...

Overall I recommend to stay here if you are on a budget!

Clean, spacious room, enough parking space, friendly staff, location ok, good place if you want to visit San Francisco. Easy to reach via Van Ness Boulevard, in walking distance of Fishermans Wharff. There aren't many restaurants and shops in the direct area, but if you walk 5 minutes, there is plenty to choose from.

Yes, it is expensive for a motel, but you will not find cheap acommodation in San Fran except in an area you would rather not be! Free parking. About $10 to Fishermans Wharfe by taxi. Cable cars & "crooked Street" walkable if fit. The motel is an agent for open topped "Hop on-Hop off" double decker bus, and one of its stops is opposite the hotel. We found this very useful, & saved us having to use the car to negotiate S/F's traffic. Only runs from 9am-6pm, but tickets last 24 hrs. from time bought. Does complete curcuit of city. We took it down to The Golden Gate Bridge. Got off, walked over the bridge, and got on a bus the other side. They run roughly every 15-20 mins. Found the lady and the couple manning reception friendly & helpful. We found the continental breakfast good. Fresh apples/bananas. Coffe/tea/juice. Cakes/danish. Help yourself in reception & take back to room. Downside-- noisy at night if you have nocturnal neighbours. Yes, you can hear traffic, but as background rather than intrusive. But walls are thin, & if you are trying to get over jet lag, the last thing you want is the person upstairs walking around at 3am, or hearing the sink run or toilet flush every time.

Overall this is the nice motel that is located relatively central in the city, street motels in town, but I do not know if San Francisco has so much meaning to the location, the attractions are far hills from each other and can not move around on foot in this city, so if you do not come with car I was maybe looking for a hotel in the vicinity of the harbor.
The motel managers elderly couple, the husband looked a little threatening, but very nice woman. The room itself was clean and tidy, the maid came every day. We did not turn at night then we have no idea of the area at night but it was quiet. Breakfast is a joke, there is a parallel position and coffee and orange muffins, that's it. A little expensive for my taste for this kind of hotel, we paid about $ 400 for three nights, but there were no other better alternative.
