“Worst Experience in a Westin Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2013

The Westin St. Francis is a very nice hotel. We entered the hotel at 2 am in the morning and were waked up in the morning at 7.30 by the painters, which painted the room next to me. Second disturbance happened at 8 am when the houskeeping knocked the door to clean the room. The hotel was in this periode very crowded the bar capabilities not able to manage the big amount op people, public restrooms looked like restrooms in an underground and the service stuff was not very friendly. The hotel itself was very nice room quality as usually at Westin but the service and organization of this hotel needs improvement.

I typically love Westin hotels, I'm a business traveler and they are often the best places to stay. However, my recent stay on 5/4-5/5 were terrible. My room was 1687 and the room was decently clean but the carpet was a bit dirty. But the true filth of the hotel came when I turned on the air condition. It literally smelled like hot, smoldering garbage. The smell was unbearable and I had to open the window. But the windows then got stuck because they were so old.

The worst part of the stay was what happened to my co-worker. They "accidently" checked him out of the room for some reason. They later admitted the error, but the most horrible part was the employee theft. After removing all his luggage from the room, the hotel employees rummaged through his clothes and stole some items. When they returned the luggage, he was missing several items. This is totally unacceptable. I will never stay here again and I will recommend all my co-workers to avoid it as well. This hotel no longer deserves my professional and personal business.

We stayed in the Westin St Francis on Union Square in October 2012.
We were allocated a room on a floor in the 20s. It was a standard luxury hotel room in a large multi national chain.
However we had the most amazing view from our triangular window which we spent some time standing in spotting the city views on this our 5th trip to SF.
We could see the GGB, Grace Cathedral, Coit Tower & most of the other landmark buildings.
Being on Union Sq it is so central to everything including the Westfield San Fransisco.

Room Tip: High floors on Northern side have best San Francisco landmark views

I usually stay down by Fisherman's wharf when in San Francisco but this time we decided to try something different and stayed at the Westin St. Francis in Union Square. Very Very nice. Great rooms, greater view and easy on/off with the trolley right out front. A great place for business travel as well. Front desk personnel very friendly and supportive with info, directions and answers. Everything you would expect from a four star and more. We'll be back

Here for business. Great location and room was huge. Nice king bed and high ceilings! I would stay here again. Good service. Everyone was very polite and the lobby bar was a nice treat to relax in the morning or after a long day.

Old charm but not charming due to the very busy nature and lack for nice communal spaces. Gym is super tiny for the size of the hotel. Room is small, outdated and lacks style. Location is good. There are much nicer hotels with better amenities such as the Four Seasons, St Regis or the W hotel I would recommend.

We where part of a business and pleasure event this spring. Our room was in the new tower. Every person in the convention had a different place to stay from the old tower to the new and not one complaint. Sure some things where not 100% but what ever is in life. The staff at the hotel was very helpful for any requests. Maid service was wonderful.
My wife and I just loved, loved, loved this home away from home. Location was perfect for reaching any parts of town. Shopping stores where minutes away. The safety of the area even at @ 2am was a none issue. Of course always be aware of your surroundings.
The staff have a great sense of humor. This hotel features an outside elevator that travels 32 stories up. Jokingly the elevator staff after many years will joke " I close my eyes every time I go up"
The architecture at the hotel mixes old and new to blend into modern.
The bathrooms are very good. Counter space was great. Wife always brings a light up makeup mirror but the hotel does have an unlit one with good bathroom light if you need it. Showers where rain forest style with a spray feature for hard to reach area's (-:
Beds where high end pillow top with either king or two doubles. No complaints from any peeps that had either room. A fridge could be ordered in if required.
This is a very quiet hotel. We where overlooking a busy street from the 7 floor and heard next to nothing. Although the street drummer on the corner playing till 10 pm did yell up for me to stop snoring
(joke).
This hotel has at least 3 exits and all will find you in an area that is safe and yet different.
We are new to San Francisco and this hotel made us feel as if we where at home.
We did leave our heart in San Francisco but The Westin St. Francis will look after it until my wife and I return. Thank You for a perfect first time memory as those are the best.
