“Disappointing for the Ritz”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2014

We stayed at the Ritz SF twice over the holidays, both before Christmas and New Year's Eve. While this used to be a top hotel in top location and still charges top prices, I would agree with other reviewers that the hotel furniture is worn and need updating, many rooms are noisy with no views, the spa unimpressive and staff is not all well-trained or attentive. Tables were not cleared in club area, concierges were curt or working on personal matters, staff chatted loudly in the corridors, there were long waits for food and room service, and we were not greeted us by name although we stay here frequently. Housekeeping was haphazard, our clock alarm was set to 6 am, internet kept dropping, lightbulbs were burnt out, there was no tv remote in the room which then took three calls to get delivered. It is hard to keep high standards, and staff may not like working over holidays, I get it, but next time we'll head to the Four Seasons.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms next to the elevators and Club area which are noisy with arriving guests and service tro...

We enjoyed our stay a lot. Stayed here over New Years Holiday weekend. Great check-in experience and warm welcome even though they were mobbed. The doormen were friendly, helpful with directions and actually opened doors for the guests. The property is beautiful and well maintained. Not much of a lobby to speak of, but the Lounge is nice and we really liked Parallel 37 for drinks. Friendly and helpful concierge. Location is good and we walked to Union Square, the Ferry Building and Fisherman's Wharf. We are avid walkers though and the hills are formidable, so be advised.

The executive suite was quiet and well appointed and even seemed a bit larger than at other R-C properties. The bathroom was nice but had no soaking tub if that matters to you. Comfortable bed and linens. Free high speed internet cane with the Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts program along with breakfast, a $100 food credit, late checkout and a few other amenities. But my wife was disappointed in the spa due to lack of a relaxation area or hot tub, but said the masseuse was excellent.

We enjoyed our stay very much and would gladly stay again.a lot,

Love, Love this hotel. We live in Singapore and have high expectations for properties, as we travel the world frequently as Centurion members, we are very fussy.

Since I frequently visit SFO every couple of months to shop and bring in my mother and sister for shopping, this is the perfect location, perfect level of class and comfort and what I see is the friendly staff of any property we've tried in SFO. I've tried all competitors, new and old, and still come back to the friendly faces and comfort of the Ritz property in SFO.

Now I must say, they know me by name and face, recognise my family and treat us like family when we return - but thats the beauty of securing your client - the Ritz does an excellent job with doing this.

We go usually for the one bedroom suites, adjoin rooms for family and its so comfortable and convenient.

This hotel has been in upgrade mode for awhile, but even the classic rooms (with older TV) are large and comfortable.

From my opinion - can't go wrong here - just check in and you'll feel the extra level of attention from the staff!

Room Tip: If with family, chose two room king suites with adjoining room - and with family Club is best for al...

My husband surprised me for my birthday with a lovely stay at the Ritz. He booked us a club level suite. The hotel is breathtakingly beautiful! Service is impeccable- from the moment we stepped out of our car with valet to the very end! My husband made special arrangements for my birthday including rose petals on the bed and bottles of champagne. There was also a birthday card from the hotel. Club service was amazing! We will definitely return! It will be hard returning to any hotel that is not the Ritz!

We stayed 2 nights and loved this classic hotel. The room was standard with an inside view but that was our choice. The room was exceptionally clean and the beds and linens etc. of a very high caliber. The Staff were very friendly and helpful. The dining room ("37") was unusual with a tasting menu and a very good wine list. Very close to Chinatown and on a Cable Car route to downtownand the embarcadero. Just a few blocks from Union Square. We will definitly return.

Stayed 5 nights over the New Year's holiday on a family trip. We brought three kids ages 3-12 and the staff brought gifts for the girls and extra chocolates at turn down and were very accommodating with cleaning schedule. There was wonderful freshly made hot chocolate in the lobby over the holidays which the girls loved. If you are not familiar with SF area this is a great location for families because you can walk which is the best way to get a feel for San Francisco neighborhoods. We walked down the hill to Union Square in 8 min (hub of Hoilday activities ice skating, shopping etc) or walk one block down to china town or catch the trolley down to Embarcadero. We rarely needed to hire a cab even with small kids.

I went for a business meeting in July 2010, but I could visit the main points of the city in my free time, due to the great location of the hotel. It is very close to the Union Square. The bedroom, breakfast are perfect! The lunch and dinner done for the meeting were also very good. Every time was a different theme. The hotel employees are very kind and always available to help. I loved my stay in San Francisco!!!
