“Nice Enough”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2014

Good location, very courteous staff, nice room, very comfortable bed, but the place felt a bit dated. The concierge desk was rarely manned. Along with a general lack of traffic for such a large luxury hotel, hints at a relatively low occupancy, even in high season.

One small missing detail they could fix for a dollar or two: no night light in the bathroom. I had to use my iPhone.

Room Tip: Certainly on our side of the hotel (west I think), being on the 13th floor or higher would provide a...

I have stayed the JW several times in the last two years. I picked it the first time because of its location, it is near Union Square. After the first stay I realized there were advantages to staying in one of the smaller hotels in the area. Unlike the huge hotels nearby the staff quickly gets to know who you are and greets you when you enter and leave. They hustle to do things for you since I am not one of 1000's of other guests who are there. It is a very comfortable hotel that is well worth the cost.

Room Tip: Higher up is better as in all SF hotels. There are some rooms with interesting glass brick walls in...

First time staying with the JW Marriott in SF. 2 nights 3 days.Very nice room on the 17th floor. Wow the view was great! Especially at night, Junior Suite to accommodate the 3 of us. Room was adequate in size, not as spacious as expected however okay. Comfy King, (pull out was the typical, not terrible) Housekeeping did a great job. Bath room was very nice with the exception of a very narrow shower and the inability to dim the lights. Staff was helpful and friendly.
Highlights....the main restaurant was delicious, my daughters really enjoyed the atmosphere. The walk to Union Square shopping was fun! No where in the world has the vast cast of characters as San Francisco!!!
Lovely to share with my girls. Would stay again

Room Tip: With a view of the city!

In SF for a convention being held at the Hilton Union Square and the Hilton was full so got booked into the JW - LOVED THE LOCATION AND AMBIANCE! Close enough to easily walk to Union Square which was crazy busy that weekend but coming back to the JW was so much quieter, elegant feel with a relaxed calming atmosphere compared to the Hilton. The rooms are in an open pavilion so you don't have the long corridor hallways like at the Hilton but still quiet. The front desk people extremely helpful and patient answering all my questions. Loved the beds and pillows - so comfortable. My room had a great City view and the bathroom was luxurious.
I would definitely stay again!

Room Tip: Ask for higher floor, if possible. Less City noise

Green Features: I seem to notice that they were paying attention -- asking us to reuse towels, if possible, and to conserve water.

I'm a big supporter of Marriott hotels - the brand is very consistent, rooms are always well appointed - this hotel is no exception. I stayed at the hotel for 4 nights in early August. Rooms were clean and comfortable, beds were comfy. I used the hotel gym several times, was happy to find a few spin bikes among the cardio equipment. The bartenders at the lobby bar were friendly and remembered my name when I returned a second time. The concierge lounge was nice, although the happy hour snacks were gone in less than 10 minutes due to a large family who obviously knew what time the food was coming out, and they were waiting.
My only complaint would be the lunch menu options at the hotel restaurant were minimal - very few choices, a bit more variety would have been nice.
I would definitely stay here again.

Green Features: I left my towels on the hook to signal that I would use them again, the cleaning staff gave me new ones anyway. This makes me a little crazy because hotels send a message that they want to be environmentally friendly but then don't follow through. I find this at most hotels, not just this one.

So glad we chose this hotel. The staff has been very pleasant and accommodating.
The room is dated but clean. My wife also felt safe.
The breakfast is fantastic and well done.
Not a bad location but need to be careful when walking back late at night.

I visited the hotel for 2 nights during a business trip. Rooms are very clean and comfortable with an impressive bathroom, also nice comfy beds.
I used the hotel gym which was good. The service at breakfast was extremely friendly and food was good.
The open hotel lobby is very impressive with that height but maybe best to avoid high floors if you are uncomfortable with heights...
Nice central location and walking distance to shops, restaurants and bars, even if you do not have a lot of time.
