“The perfect place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2014

A 4-day get-away to San Francisco over the Christmas holiday was perfect at this charming and comfortable Inn. After doing the research and reading the reviews, we were not disappointed with any element of our stay here. Centrally located near Union Square, I expected the noise to travel a bit, however our room was quiet and relaxing with no noise from the outside or neighboring rooms. No kids running thru the halls either!

The establishment and rooms were small, and had a slight European feel to it, but it wasn't crowded and the rooms felt perfectly sized for two adults. Since it was an older building, we expected it not to be overly spacious, and were pleased that it didn't feel dated or run down -- they take very good care of it and have updated it nicely. Common areas on each floor for evening cookies or morning breakfast were nice too -- gave a more homey feel than a larger resort with 1 huge dining area.

I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Friendly staff and perfect location!

Room Tip: Don't be disappointed if you get a room without any views -- we didn't have a view on 4th fl...

My husband and I like to stay in San Fransisco for Christmas Eve and was lucky enough to find the inn at Union Square. I cannot say anything bad about this place, the service when we checked in was fantastic and super friendly. The location is excellent and a perfect place to stay if your wanting to move about the city with ease. The cable cars are located across the street, restaurants of all types of food are within walking distance and of course shopping a Union Square. As much as I saved in lodging I was able to make up in spending at the stores. I will go back and stay there. Its pretty hidden.

Room Tip: we stayed in 601 top floor and I sat for hours on the fire escape looking out at the busy city

My family of 4 stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. The staff (especially Ken) was extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful. It is situated in the perfect location for shopping, eating out and walking around the city. We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfasts and the hors d'oeuvres. We will definitely be staying here again when we visit San Francisco!

My wife and I spent four days and nights at The Inn at Union Square just before Christmas this year. We were both impressed with the hotel, the room, the staff. Everything about the little hotel is thoughtfully done. Nice wine and cheese offering from 5-7PM, good coffee all day. Fresh delicious cookies every evening at 8:30. All of the staff were friendly and helpful, and it was genuine, not "part of their job." The proximity to Union Square and all it has to offer was an added bonus. We look forward to staying here whenever we go to San Francisco.

Room Tip: A room not facing Post Street is quieter, although there is not much to look out on.

We have been going to the Inn since shortly after it opened in the 80's. It is rare that any business retains its high quality of service over thirty years, but this hotel has done exactly that. Besides its perfect downtown location, the lovely continental breakfasts and evening wine, the staff is unfailingly pleasant and helpful. Yes, the bathrooms are small by modern standards, but this is a historic building, and small baths are the norm in all of the similar hotels. And no, there is no air conditioning, but one rarely needs that in SF, and our room had two fans plus windows that open. The rooms are very quiet, and the hotel generally does not attract families making it even more so. Parking is costly... currently $39 per day plus tax with unlimited in and out, but again that is the norm in the city. We have stayed in numerous locations over the years, but The Inn is still the best!

My hubby and I stayed here for a night over the Xmas holidays. We requested an early check in since our flight arrived early and despite being fully booked, the Inn did their best to get us in early, and they did. The hotel is tiny, and rooms are small but quaint. It is beautifully restored with Art Deco trimmings. We had free continental brekkie, free wine at happy hour, free wifi, free bottled water and the staff were so helpful. This is our new Go-To place to stay in San Fran.

Room Tip: Rooms are very small so best to upgrade to a suite. For the suites, Room 507 (and presumably all ro...

Stayed 2 nights right before Christmas. The streets right outside the entrance were mobbed with hundreds of people enjoying Christmas in San Francisco. Enter the Inn and all the noise and craziness fade away. I forget what their logo is but it is spot on about being at the center of it all and at the same time not. I was staying by myself in my room which sometimes makes me nervous, but not here. I felt not only safe but happy. The room didn't feel like a hotel room, but more like an in law unit. The staff is invested in making sure the guests are happy. They remembered my family who were staying in other rooms from previous years by name. I'm in the same business, I run a vacation rental business. I feel my job makes me a very critical guest. The Inn at Union Square was perfect.
