“Absolutely Loved It!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

For our first trip to San Fran I booked the Inn at Union Square because of the reviews on Trip Advisor. So happy with my choice! We stayed 3 nights in early April with 2 other couples.

The location was just around the corner from the square and in the middle of fabulous shopping, close to China Town and short taxi rides to everywhere we wanted to go. The Hop On/Off tour bus stopped right across the street!

The hotel itself is very well maintained and very clean. We booked a junior suite to give us a little extra room.

The service was fantastic. Omar on the front desk was great with suggestions on places to eat and bars to go to. The continental breakfast was great, and the coffee tasted good too. The wine and cheese in the afternoon was a great way to relax after a busy day before heading out again. Wayne, the Inn Keeper, was very friendly with lots of stories and made us feel at home. We also loved the cookies that appeared in the common area in the evening!

The turndown service with water and a chocolate, and the robes and umbrellas were all a nice touch. Newspapers are also delievered each day.

We had a late afternoon flight and were able to get a late checkout.

Everyone was so helpful and friendly - it was really refreshing and not something you see very often. It was a great end to our holiday and I definitely recommend this hotel and will stay here again next time we go to San Fran.

Thank you to everyone we met at the hotel for such a great experience.

MY family and I spent 4 days at The Inn at Union Square. It was our first stay there. The Inn's ambiance and staff made our stay outstanding. The full continental breakfast, wine/cheese hour and warm cookies made us feel at home. The location and helpful, friendly staff made it very easy to get to where we needed to go. The Inn is where I will stay during any future visits to San Francisco. Thank you Wayne, Ann, Ken, Omar and staff for a marvelous stay. Sandy Rashid and family.

My wife and I celebrated our second wedding anniversary in San Francisco. The location of The Inn at Union Square was perfect for our trip. It is centrally located to everything we wanted to do and see in the SF Bay area. Ann, Wayne and all staff members at The Inn were wonderfully inviting and informative to we novices to the area. We loved the complimentary breakfast and evening wine&cheese each day of our trip. Our room, although small, was very clean and well appointed. Our only complaint was that we were surprised that our room had heat but no A/C. Through further investigation, we found that many hotels in the city have only heat due to the consistent temperature of the area (rarely goes above 75 degrees). Overall, we had a wonderful stay at The Inn and would definitely return to this wonderful boutique hotel!

This is an excellent hotel. The location is great, the service is great, its quaint and the rates are reasonable for this area. The staff is particularly helpful and friendly. If you've read some of the other reviews, you will know they have a foyer area on each floor where they serve a breakfast in the morning and wine in the early evening. It gives the place a B&B feel where you have an easy opportunity to meet the hotel's other guests.

My only caution about this hotel (and it is a caution rather than a criticism) is that the layout of the rooms is a bit awkward for families. The rooms are nice, but small. And because of the size and layout of the building I don't see how they could make the rooms bigger (family) size. There is a couch in the queen suites that can be used as a bed, but it's not really all that comfortable. And it was hard for us (and quite frankly, we're not big people) to fit all three of us in one queen size bed.

For families staying in this area, I am not sure if there is an alternative to the Marriott, Westin, etc. And although the big brand hotels occupy bigger space, I am not sure how large their rooms are since I have not yet stayed in one. But next trip we'll probably try one simply because this hotel is just a bit too small for families.

Room Tip: If you decide to come here with a family notwithstanding my caution on this, be sure to get a suite.

We recently had a GREAT visit to The Inn at Union Square. It was so much fun to stay at a quaint and beautiful boutique hotel in the heart of Union Square, instead of a mundane hotel brand. The location was wonderful, we enjoyed so much having breakfast in the mornings, as well as a complimentry wine reception at night. There were fresh baked cookies each evening as well. The part that we loved most about the hotel stay was the SERVICE. The wonderful people that work at this hotel make the stay exceptional by going over and beyond. They were so knowledgeable about the city, and made us feel so welcome and right at home. They even offered to keep our bags all day, even though we were checking out, so that we could sightsee some more and not have to worry about moving our things!! Each interaction with a hotel employee was a pleasure. They are all so lovely, and i cannot wait to go back to San Francisco so that i can stay at this hotel again.

There were also several little touches that we so appreciated during our stay- comfy robes in the rooms, bags always brought up and down the stairs for us, a fireplace....Would never stay anywhere else in the city. So worth the money spent to be able to stay here!!!

We stayed here recently for four nights. Simply put, this is a great place to stay in San Francisco. The location is perfect, so close to great shopping and dining and just a few blocks up from the cable car stop. The price was very reasonable, especially considering the added touches. The breakfast selections were good, the cookies at night were delicious, and my husband really enjoyed the daily wine and cheese and the free wifi.

Our room was small and mostly had a view of a brick wall, but it was quiet and clean and comfortable. The shower stall was small but managable. The staff were all very polite and friendly. We felt truly welcome.

I would stay here again, and would recommend it to family and friends travelling to San Francisco.

Fantastic customer service!! Great recommendations from the people at the front desk. Cookies at night. Delicious breakfast (great granola). Wine and cheese in the afternoon. Warm, welcoming staff. Perfect location. Comfy bed. I would stay here again for sure! My husband and I loved this place, we were sad to leave!

Only one downside: no views unless you want street noise. We stayed in the back of the hotel and it was lovely!
