I knew this was a special hotel but you have to go to experience it. We stayed in a signature room in the tower and had a view of the golden gate bridge, Alcatraz and the bay. What more could you ask for. The staff are wonderful. I did not want to leave!

This place is crazy fancy. I was a nanny for a family that had a wedding to attend. The baby and I stayed in the hotel room. I by no normal circumstances would have been able to afford to stay there.

This place is a walk away from San Francisco's NOB Hill shopping. There is a beautiful Catholic church just across the street as well.

The room I stayed in had a huge window that out looked the city. A very large bathroom with a nice deep tub to bathe/shower in. Two huge beds, with tons of pillows. A walk in closest that was basically a whole extra room.

The room service was really good, just a phone call and a button push away. The rooms were always cleaned while we were away. The desk staff were very friendly, and felt genuinely interested in the plans we had while staying.

We called ahead and got a crib for the baby, and it was a cute crib at that. The bell hops were nice and quick when we needed them.

The restaurant was good. The food was really expensive, but that was to be expected. They had a "tea time" event that took over half of the restaurant, so we sat in over flow for lunch. The tables were more coffee tables, and not too good for eating from. It was more of a lounge area.

When checking out, we had them wheel all of our items down to the check out desk. Some time between us going down the elevator, and checking out they took all of our things off of the u-boat and left it all on the floor. They made up for having three different people lug it all to the car, once the valet was ready.

In all its expensive, but really nice. It was fun to feel like a movie star for a weekend.

We had a double queen room with a rollaway bed for a family of four.

Room was on third floor overlooking California Street. There was cable car and street noise but it was not an issue for us. Room was big enough with a bath/shower - it was a functional room and house keeping were very good.

Hotel itself is a piece of history. Amazing walking around seeing the pictures on the walls.
Had the buffet breakfast one morning - good but expensive. Other options around within two/three block walk.

The hotel staff do make this place special - bellman Tommy had a huge knowledge of local area. The doorman also got us a complimentary limo ride when we asked for a taxi to the ferry terminal.

Great location - easy walk downhill to Union Square or Chinatown , and short taxi rides to Fisherman's Wharf and AT & T Park.

This is a nice hotel, well located at the top of Nob Hill. If you don't mind hiking back to the hotel up the hills it's not a bad walk to Union Square or Fisherman's Wharf. We even walked to AT&T Park to catch a ball game (okay, we did make a stop at an Irish Pub).

The lobby is spectacular. The suite we stayed in was very

I feel bad writing a negative commentary about such a mythic place, but my experience of this hotel was not pleasant at all (and I felt like giving even a lower note). We stayed for four nights there and left exhausted - not because we partied too much:-). The bedding was of a very poor quality (I presume it was good at some point, a long time ago, but definitely needs replacement) and there was no escape from noises of garbage city services very early in the morning. The hotel seems to rely entirely on its history without making any effort to maintain the quality. The carpeting in the corridors smelt dust. The valet parking was the most expensive I had ever seen (though I understand that parking is very expensive in SF, but still). The only positive thing I can mention is the lobby which is beautiful:-)

We stayed at The Fairmont in the beginnig of april and I can recommend it to everyone. One of the best beds I have experienced. Very expensiv breakfast. Go to Roxannes cafe 2 blocks away. Impressiv building. Great reception area and of course restaurant Tonga Room, a must when you are in SF.

Of course there is the grandeur of this wonderful old dowager hostelry. Yet I was most aware of the light...sparkling chandeliers, staff greeting you at every turn. And the scent of lilies. They host tons of famous people, presidents and royalty (see the long corridor of the famous in bxw photography), of which tribes I am not a member, yet they turn on the service and charm for all. I couldn't resist upgrading to the spectacular view side of the 18th floor. Giant window to the west gives you the most amazing SF panorama imaginable, from the Golden Gate Bridge to, peeking around the corner, to the Transamerica building. Alcatraz right in the middle. We found this endlessly fascinating and would have happily just stayed in our room. It is everything you expect from a 5 star, though my favorite thing was the excellent service. I love friendly places and despise snooty ones. Concierge desk answered all my little questions, from which bus to take where to what has happened with my cell phone? (I'd inadvertently placed it in Do Not Disturb mode)
Breakfast in the room seemed important given the view and I ordered just one each time, as it was huge enough to satisfy both of us. We also took advantage of a 3 nights for price of 2. So our splurge was a moderate one.
Loved the little ipad on the desk, loaded with lots of useful things like neighborhood restaurants.
Only small thing was the heating-cooling. We were either too hot or too cold though the thermostat was easy to do. There has to be something, a la Persian rug defect story.
We love the place and you will too!

Room Tip: splurge a little for a memorable stay
