“A beautiful place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

The Fairmont San Francisco is an elegant hotel. I had the opportunity to say here for a month when I was on business in San Francisco. We stayed in the tower section which provided beautiful views of the bay. Room service was top notch and the staff was friendly and helpful. The beds are very comfortable and the bath was very nice also. It is pricey, but when someone else is footing the charge for you, you do not say NO. It is a bit of walk up and down the hills to get anywhere, but you can catch the bus, the cable car or a taxi if you get tuckered out from the walk.

Spent 2 nights here at the start of our honeymoon. Got a very nicely decorated, large, high floor room with a good view east towards Chinatown and the bay. Staff were all very friendly and helpful, and it was a very nice touch to have a bottle of bubbly and some chocolate covered strawberries delivered to the room. For the price of the hotel, would have been nice to have WiFi. Good location, only a few (hilly) blocks from Chinatown, Union Square and some nice restaurants. Saw Jeff Daniels checking in there too, so if it's good enough for him, it's good enough for us.

The staff treated me like royalty. The Fairmont is truly a luxury hotel, with all the amenities and services one loves. The concierge went beyond the call of duty, even arranging to have my car washed.

Historic Hotel that retains a lot of the charm from yesteryear. Good size rooms. I had a room on 2nd floor facing the Bay which was great, especially at night. Liked the fact the room was super quiet day and night. Only odd part was Tonga, a bar downstairs that seems to have been forgotten since the 80's. Would of been a five except price and the lobby bar was pretty inefficient when a crowd showed up which should of been anticipated given there was a conference at the hotel.

This is an elegant old hotel on the top of Nob Hill. Our newly refurbished room( no.576) was both beautiful and large. The staff could not have been nicer or more helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We stayed for the weekend two weeks ago and found this to be exactly as expected...classic style, beautiful lobby, attentive staff, knowledgeable concierge. Who could ask for more? We had breakfast each morning, ordering from the menu one day and the buffet the next. Both delicious and very satisfying. We did have our room changed to the towers, since we really wanted a view and that's exactly what we got. Straight away, we saw Coit tower and Alcatraz. Nice view to wake to...Our original room (202) was beautiful!...The closet was the size of a studio apartment! But I really wanted to see the water. So to the towers we moved and settled into room 57.
Perfect location, interesting lobby bar scene and a fabulous city to explore with this as your home base.

Room Tip: stay in the towers

The 20th floor corner Tiburon Suite has unrivaled views of the city -- we saw Coit Tower, the bay, Golden Gate, Bay Bridge, TransAmerica and Bank of America buildings and Alcatraz through huge windows in the living room and bedroom. They even have a telescope in the room. No complaints about that! BUT -- the bathroom door squeaks and is heavy/sticky, the music/speaker system was not worthy of the suite, the waiter who brought our in-room breakfast was less than perky/happy, 5 minutes after we checked in a housekeeping lady just literally walked in without saying anything and started puttering in the bedroom (wth?), AND our bags didn't get delivered until about 90 minutes later -- not exaggerating! The front desk lady took the red claim tag for our luggage for I don't know why and they ended up "losing" our stuff. There are a few other good things of note though: the bed was one of the comfiest I've ever slept in, the suite was massive for an SF hotel, the lobby and facade and history of the hotel were beautiful and intriguing, and room service food was ALWAYS hot, or cold if needed. We had wine and cheese set up in the suite to entertain friends and that was really good too!
