“Impressive Service and overall experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

I will admit that when travelling for business, I often stay at Fairmont properties when they are available. I like them because each location, although part of the same organization, is different in it's own right.
Fairmont San Francisco is one of those properties that combines a historic charm with modern amenities. This is the first time I have stayed at this location and found the lobby to be wonderful, and the rooms were just as pleasant and modern...not always the case in some hotels. Room service for breakfast was also very good with plenty of healthy options.

Finding a cab was easy and the neighborhood is wonderful to walk around (Nob Hill). Staff was alert, friendly and helpful the entire stay. Room was recently remodeled and was quiet ans tasefully decorated.

The challenge in San Francisco is that there are so many great hotels to choose from. Fairmont San Francisco is my first choice!

Room Tip: I had a corner room which offered a great view. If you prefer lower floors, it will not be a proble...

Green Features: Being in San Francisco, water is always in short supply. Hotel has an effective program for concerving water like lower flow showers, toilets, etc. Also give you the option of having towels changed every day or not.

Walked into this hotel and it really does have the wow factor. The building is beautiful, and the entrance amazing.
Sarah on reception was fantastic, and not only did she help sort out a room that we had paid for with a view of the bay, not a partial bay/ city room we were originally given, but she helped connect us to the wifi.
The room was amazing with views of The Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and Coits Tower. The room was spotless,,but I was a bit miffed as there were no slippers provided. The carpets appeared to be new, and I think instead of encouraging people to walk around in outdoor shoes or worse still in their bare feet, then slippers are a must. ( I was told on the day we were leaving slippers are available on request!! )
The toiletries are a bit sparse, and over the space of 5 days had to ask twice for more shower gel and lotion.
On a couple of occasions I saw guests sitting in Public areas with their feet up on tables. I personally get offended by this as I find it rude and unhygienic.
On the day we were leaving, the business center was having problems with printing boarding passes. I was told concierge would help. I was unfortunate enough to be seen to by Albert. He was totally disinterested right from the start telling me, "well I can't do it."Funny, coz the concierge standing next to him had just helped another guest out with the same problem... And he printed hers for her. When I pointed this out to him, he threw the paper at another staff member, a young man named Alberto, and told him " you do this" he promptly walked off and started helping with luggage ... My feeling is that whilst helping me with something so mundane, he was missing out on tips from helping guests with luggage, so he wasn't interested... ( Hence me marking service down from excellent!! )
Alberto kindly managed to print my boarding passes.
On the way back to the lift, I passed an old man who was walking his dog along the corridor... This area is immaculate with beautiful carpets... His dog squatted and DEFECATED right there... I couldn't believe it. This guest made no attempt to move his dog to an open doorway near by. He then stood patting his pockets as if he didn't have anything to pick if up with. I stood glaring at him, letting him know what I had just had the misfortune of witnessing...
He did reluctantly eventually pick it up...
I was so angry I reported if to management.. If you don't let your dog defecate in your home, don't let them do it where others are staying!!
I was assured by management that this was not the norm, and that the area would be deep cleaned...
THIS REALLY IS A BEAUTIFUL ICONIC HOTEL. IF YOU ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO STAY HERE, THEN TREAT IT WITH THE RESPECT IT DESERVES!!

I've stayed here twice; 2013 and 2014. In 2013, the rooms desperately needed a renovation. Now, the rooms have all been renovated and the result is incredible; the appearance is a nice hybrid of modern and classic (think "a modern take on classic luxury") that is tasteful (unlike The Scarlet Huntington!) and manages to be a phenomenal upgrade.

The location is great; you're in the middle of San Francisco and all the nice restaurants and bars are only a short walk-or-cab-or-cable-car-ride away. The hotel is right at the intersection of the two main cable-car lines, which is very helpful. And the views, for those in tower rooms, are just retina-bleedingly delicious.

The lobby and the Laurel Court are both incredibly beautiful. The bar isn't inexpensive but the quality is commendable and the staff are excellent and very willing to give advice on great places to visit.

But where I really need to gush is the concierge... Fairmont San Francisco introduced concierge service to the US, and the concierge here are frankly the best I've had in my life (and for perspective, I've stayed at The Peninsula in Hong Kong... Fairmont SF's concierge is better, and I don't say that lightly). They helped me immeasurably with restaurant bookings, pointers as to where to check out, suggestions and advice as to bars and restaurants and areas to check out... they are very honest and helpful. I've been given so much assistance by all four (I think? I know there are at least four) members of the concierge team at Fairmont SF; they've saved me a lot of headaches to say the least.

The hotel is beautiful, the location is excellent, the staff are fantastic (particularly the concierge) and the only complaints I had were fixed with the room renovations.

PROS:
+ Great location with some excellent views if you're in the tower
+ Beautiful interiors and wonderful renovations
+ Best concierge service I've had in my life
+ If you book four months in advance and pay when you book, you get a 40% discount!

CONS:
- The bar isn't inexpensive... but hey, this is San Francisco, take a cable car down California Street and the drinks get much less expensive!

OVERALL:
An excellent hotel which I'd gladly recommend to anyone who can afford it. Booking early and paying in advance can result in dramatic reductions in room rates, in turn creating phenomenal value for money.

Room Tip: Get a tower room, preferably a North-facing one. You can see Alcatraz from your bed!

We arrived after check in to be told there was no room available even though the reservation had been made months ago. So we waited for over an hour and after bugging the front desk a few times finally got a room. Concierge was very helpful but other staff was ok, surprising considering the money paid. Not a place I would stay again.

perhaps it is the expectation level of staying in a $1000 room at the Fairmont that is unfair but there are better hotels in the areathan this one that is only a name on the front of a very average experience

This hotel is first class. Beautiful property, great staff. A bit pricier than some other San Fran hotels, but really lovely. I had a bay view which was really beautiful. Easy to get a cab from hotel which at some San Fran hotels is difficult

We have tried other sf hotels, but they disappoint. At the Fairmont- you will sleep amazingly well, you will relax, you will see amazing views. The renovation is incredible. Gorgeous. Elegant. Rich. It is difficult to write this review because I want to be there again!
