My wife and I visit San Francisco frequently, usually twice a year, and the Donatello is the best value we have ever found. The service from check-in through check-out was warm, friendly, and efficient. Our large corner room was full of light and large, basically a suite. It contained all the amenities we could ask for: tv, internet, refrigerator, microwave, dishes, wine glasses, coffee maker (with good coffee), phone, radio, CD player, and so on. The linens and towels were luxurious, what one expects from a hotel charging two or three times what we paid. The Donatello has a restaurant and a small piano bar. We used the latter and enjoyed that, too. Our Tanqueray martinis were about $10 each, significantly less that we are accustomed to in our home town (Miami Beach) or bars we typically visit in NYC or SF. And of course the hotel is about a block from Union Square and a short walk to the Powell St BART stop. What a wonderful establishment.
