“Excellent stay at the Donatello”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

Stayed in the hotel for 3 nights during May 2013 and had no complaints whatsoever! The hotel was in an excellent location, literally 1 minute walk from Union Square and the fabulous shops! The room was modern, clean and comfortable - we were really sad to leave! The staff were lovely and friendly and offered great advice on public transport.

I would have no hesistation in recommending this hotel to anyone and if I return to SF i would definitely stay here again.

We were very comfortable at the Donatello. The room is very large for a city hotel. It was easy for two people to dress and relax in the room. There was even a large, curved desk with two chairs. The bed was comfortable, the HVAC worked well, a reliable wireless connection was included with the room charge. The kitchenette was well-equipped with real china, glasses and flatware. The location was ideal, we could walk to everything. The lounge on the top floor with and outdoor deck was a great addition. We will definitely return to the Donatello.

Room Tip: After reading other reviews, we requested a quiet room. I'm not sure it made any difference, we...

A wonderful hotel, good location, caring staff, large rooms with kitchenette. We were able to trade our timeshare for The Donatello and were very pleased. We also enjoyed the club room upstairs with wonderful views from the balcony. Also, there is a concierge up there who is very willing to help you with restaurant reservations and tours. We would stay here again.

An very good hotel close to shopping, dining, cable cars, etc. A nice, large room that worked well for us: 2 parents and 2 (nearly) grown up teenagers. The kitchenette worked fine for us at breakfast. Very service-minded staff, excellent cleaning. Good lounge on top floor with free tea/coffee and helpful concierge. Fitness ok but a bit worn. We would recommend this hotel to everyone visiting SF.

What a great hotel this is. Reasonably priced for a start, which is always a plus in a city but even more so when you see where it is. Its on the corner of a couple of quiet streets and Union Square is literally along just along the road with the tour bus and tram stops so from here you can go everywhere. Also not very far from the rail station, just a short walk (we travelled from the airport via the train) so dragging our cases wasn't an issue and far cheaper and quicker than getting a taxi. There are loads of places to eat nearby included Sears, a highly recommended breakfast place and The Cheesecake Factory on top of Macy's. The rooms are a great size and the beds are huge and so comfy, we'd been travelling for about 18 hours by the time we arrived so you can imagine how delighted we were when we seen the bed. The top floor is a lovely touch, just pop upstairs for complimentary tea and coffee and you can pick up a few tourist leaflets and the guy on the desk will be more than happy to answer your questions. Also have to recommend the hotel staff in general, we were picking up a hire car in the morning so the hotel let us settle the bill but hang onto the room key to store our stuff and then the valet let us pull in whilst we popped in to get our bags and he turned the car round for us and pointed us off in the right direction when we returned. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to visit San Francisco

I read all the reviews for the Donatello - good location, nice staff, large clean rooms - and made a decision to stay for two nights on a trip with my son and his girlfriend. Having been to San Francisco many times, we try to stay in the Union Square area as it's convenient for the BART as well as Muni transportation to Golden Gate Park and other attractions. We got a very good rate for July due to a Summer Flash sale. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly, checked in very quickly and smoothly and on our way to our specious and yes, very clean room. Only downsides were that the bathroom was in need of an update/refresh on the paint (room 1008 management) and the shower didn't work very well (we were standing in three inches of water because water came out of the shower head as well as the tap into the bath). For three people, the room was a great size and very comfortable. The club room with free coffee, tea and hot chocolate was a nice touch. Two blocks to Union Square, a few blocks to the Powell BART and also Market Street for the bus to Golden Gate Park. Do visit the Science Museum - it's a fantastic place. Yes, we did hear some street noise but took earplugs because of the number of reviews mentioning the noise. Because of the rate, the location and the comfortable room, I would definitely stay at the Donatello again.

Room Tip: High floor obviously helps with the street noise, but take earplugs
