“Perfect location to start a city trip”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2012

We stayed in Donatello for 3 nights in a King suite room in the club level. The club level rooms are on the top floors, they are quite large, would recommend to anyone to get an upgrade to avoid the street noise. The Club level rooms get free entrance to a club lounge and sauna area. Don`t expect much from it, just free coffee and tea and small sitting area. The gym is outdated as is the "spa" area - one jacuzzi for all guests. The sauna was cold, just 50-60 degrees Celsius, when I complained and said that normally in the sauna should be at least 80 Celsius the concierge was shocked - said I would burn my self to death :)
Complimentary WiFi is a nice bonus. I payed USD 200 for a night in the end of March and wished a little bit more for that price.
Will I stay again, probably no, in that price range I expected more.

We stayed 5 nights just one block from union square.nice big rooms ,with good facilities.friendly staff, free wifi and a reasonably priced car park, just next door.
The Italian restuarant in the hotel is also a very high standard, with high standard food and a great wine list.
Free wifi at the hotel.
Try to get room at the back and up as high as you can , it could be a little noisy if you were on the street

Myself and three friends spent 4 nights in this hotel. It's in a great location only a two minute walk to Union Square. The staff were very friendly. We were all sharing accommodation. We had a large king bed and a double sofa bed which was extremely comfortable. The room was fab. It had been newly renovated. There was a TV in the bathroom :). When we arrived there was no safety deposit box in the room but housekeeping installed one for us straight away. There are still renovations going on, on some of the floors but that didn't affect us other than a dust sheet hanging in the elevator. I would definitely stay in this hotel again.

I can't believe you will find better value in San Francisco. Great location and all aspects of the hotel were faultless. The room was newly renovated and although work was still being carried out in other parts of the hotel - but this was not a problem. The room was more like a 5* and the bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in - heavenly! The room had all the facilities you need. Staff could not have been more helpful. A perfect start to our holiday in California.

Room Tip: We had a standard room and couldn't fault it.

We stayed for 6 nights in a 2 double bed room. It was missing most of the furniture for 4 nights and then it was all rearranged while we were out. Not happy! The room renovations were right next door every day, nonstop 8-5. The help was very gracious. We only had a mini frig to use for juices, wines and snacks. Only the Shell owners have a nice kitchenette, not RCI exchangers. The late-night bar noise was extreme for 3 nights. The unlimited beverages were a nice touch. We would go again but after it's done construction mode. The manager was generous after hearing our complaints.Loved the central location!

Room Tip: Ask for 14th floor but away from the noisy alley.

We felt welcome from the moment we stepped in.The cleanliness of the room was surprising, the room was newly renovated and all the facilities were up to date. Location of the hotel is great, walking distance to Union Square, shops, restaurants, buses, cable car.The whole experience in San Francisco was very pleasant and complimented with The Donatello Hotel. I would warmly recommend this hotel to everyone and would definitely stay there again.

Great location, large room, comfortable king-sized bed, excellent price. I'm really glad that I shopped around before selecting a hotel. After looking up hotels all over town, both on Trip Advisor, and by actually going to each hotel's website, the Donatello won hands-down over all others. I couldn't be happier my selection. The location is convenient to Union Square. The room was spacious, had a very comfortable king-sized bed, a sleep sofa, a kitchenette with a coffee maker and a microwave, as well as some dishes, cups, glasses and silverware - and they don't charge extra for these amenities like many of the hotels in town do - they are included at the price.

The staff was very friendly. My husband had an injury which required surgery to a tendon in his ankle/foot prior to our vacation, so we had a scooter delivered to the hotel prior to our arrival. The hotel staff held onto the scooter until we arrived, and then delivered it to our room upon our arrival. They put us in a handicapped accessible room, which was probably a little larger than a regular room. We were very happy with the room that they put us in.

Upon reading many of the reviews on Trip Advisor, I saw many people complained about noise from the street and noise from the elevators. We were in a room right next to the elevators, and didn't have any issue whatsoever with noise from the elevator. In addition, our room was on the 6th floor and faced Post Street. We didn't have any problem at all with noise from the street. The first night, we heard sirens from an ambulance or firetruck, but other than that, no problems whatsoever. The windows are tightly sealed which helps to keep the sound from the street down.

The hotel is currently being renovated - new carpeting installed, some painting, etc., so it will be even nicer for those who stay there in the future. The staff was very friendly. We were greeted by Jesus upon our arrival - he was very friendly and had a great sense of humor. Kara was also very helpful in telling us about places to go and things to see around town. There were several other people who worked the front desk, and several concierge team members, all of whom were friendly and accommodating. Even the cleaning people were friendly!

I will definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family who plan to go to San Francisco. It really is the best deal in town! :o)
