“Great Staff; A Little Pricey”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2014

Stayed for two nights at this Marriott for business. Typical Marriott, nice lobby, decent rooms, decor is getting a little old but not bad. The staff is excellent! This is why I have given it 4 stars. Everyone is always asking if there is anything they can do. I had an issue with the wifi in my room, and they quickly moved me to another room. Prices at the lobby bar are expensive, can't get a glass of wine for less that $15, and parking is $62 overnight. I have stayed in many hotels in SF, and that is the most I have paid. If you are Marriott Gold or Platinum, they treat you very well, and you can save a lot on meals using the concierge lounge, which is well stocked.

Stayed at The Marriott Marquis in San Francisco. Great service, location and room. The Concierge level was both wonderful in service, food choices and atmosphere. Our room was very nice but bad lighting which needs to improve. Front Desk and Bell Staff were great. The Hotel has an A-Plus location.

Room Tip: Get a city view room.

It's clean, it has comfortable beds, fairly quiet rooms, and all the standard amenities you need for a business stay, but other than that, it has nothing to set it apart from hundreds of other nondescript large business hotels elsewhere in the country. It also has only mediocre food options on the premise. If you are looking for a hotel that goes beyond bland, you have better options in San Francisco.

Dear Carpatifara,

Thank you for taking the time to share your impressions regarding your recent stay at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis. We appreciate and welcome all comments. It was a pleasure to read you enjoyed your recently “rejuvenated” guest room, amenities and the famous Marriott bedding. Although we are one of the largest hotels in San Francisco, I am sorry we came across as one of the largest hotels. This is not at all how we want our guests to feel when staying with us. We want our hotel to be your home away from home. Please be sure all your remark will been considered by our Management team and the appropriate measures will been taken. We assure all our staff is dedicated to offer the best service for a unique experience in our hotel. We do hope you will consider the San Francisco Marriott Marquis once again if your travels bring you back to the City.

Best regards,

The San Francisco Marriott Marquis

My husband and I stayed in this hotel on Dec 30 for a quick business trip to San Francisco. Too bad we couldn't have stayed longer. The front desk check-in was excellent. I wish I had noted the name of the young man who checked us in because he was very friendly and efficient. Our room had a wonderful view overlooking the Cathedral below and the rest of the city in the distance. We even had time to enjoy a quick late night cocktail at the bar...expensive but can't complain too much with such an amazing view. Because we are Elite members, we enjoyed the delicious free breakfast the next morning.

Although the hotel was full because of the holidays, nothing ever felt rushed or too crowded. The breakfast lounge was very busy but the staff was great and seemed well equipped to handle the mix of families and business travelers.

My daughter and I had stayed at the Marriott by Union Square a couple of months ago and that was nice, but next time we visit, we'll definitely stay here! This hotel was much warmer and friendlier.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor for a better view!

If you are looking for 5 star customer service at a reasonable rate, this is the place. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable. In addition, the hotel is in a great central location... convenient to dining, shopping, and local attractions.

It was our first visit to San Francisco, We decided to stay here for a couple of nights. When we checked in we were greeted by a great front desk clerk.. Bill! He gave us a nice room with a great view. Since we had never been here before, we thought to go and ask the Concierge (Allen) where was a great place to eat. We arrived on Christmas day, knowing that most places were probably closed, so we thought he would be able to help us. Well... he was very rude! He spoke to us like we were idiots. I immediately went and asked for the hotel manager. Bryian? Not sure if that's the correct spelling of his name... He would have been the manager on duty on Decemeber 25 (evening) He was amazing! He understood our frustrations, and not only found us a great place to eat, but gave us so much help while we where staying there! My advise to the Concierge... try thinking like a guest and less like a know it all Bell boy! My only other complaint is the parking at the hotel... Valet cost $63.00 a night! Yes I know we could have parked somewhere else, but it was advised not to, as the valet staff were quick to point out that parking was a couple of blocks away, and it wasn't really safe to leave your car there. Other then that its a beautiful hotel!
